Strange or interesting Xmas customs

So guys what do you or your family have as Christmas customs?
My family has always had tree presents ( little jokey gifts) given out in the afternoon, and my hubby has always had a single present left at the end of the bed in the morning ( in the hope as kids they wouldn't rush in at stupid o'clock and wake the parents)  |

We used to buy tree presents as extras. One year I noticed my brothers were a bit off with me they then told me I had bought them hair fixing spray, opps they are both bald. I really thought it was deodrant lol |

We do after dinner tree presents as well 
Being of the pagan pursuasion I put out a Yule candle at the solstice in the garden in a special shelter and keep it burning continuously for 12 nights.
I also make little birch bark ships and fill them with nuts and treats that are hung outside (a Lapp custom).
I also put out a plate of bread and cheese to honour my ancestors (Swedish custom). |

I used to leave one present in callums room so he knew he had "been then he used to come wake me up, he wasnt allowed in the front room until i had made a cup of coffee.
Also all my life ive had gammon(boiling bacon) and porkpie for christmas day breakfast.
As children we wouldnt have anything to eat at tea time so we had supper. Mum used to set the table for us and we where allowed a really tiny glass of sherry each |

now the kids are all grown up (18 and 21) the last few yrs since its just been the 3 of us - we have crap party food xmas eve and open pressies at midnight - few drinks and then bed - teens were never in a rush to get out of bed and i work usually so it suits us - fit in our xmas meal at some point |

This one is definitely in the 'strange' category.
We had this discussion at the first company I worked at after I left school. Went round the office and everyone came up with one. Then we got to Frank..... who proceeded to tell us about his love of consuming for breakfast every Xmas Day morning...... fried pigs brains.
I kid you not.
This was in 1977, before the likes of Heston Blumen-watsit etc created dishes using virtually every part of an animal so it was a little hard to believe until one of the other guys who had worked with him at a previous company confirmed it was true..... Yuk Yuk Yuk!!!
He told us it was something his Grandad introduced him to as a kid, and it became just 'what they did' on Xmas morning....

Every Xmas eve my daughter and my dad take over the kitchen and make home made stuffing with sausage meat from scratch. They have been doing this since she was 3 years old |

Growing up always went to 11 service with my sister and father while my mother was apparently doing last minute wrapping so I was later told...and in the morning we were not allowed to wake our parents until 7(used to sit perched on end of their bed ready to pounce when the numbers flipped overto 7:00...lol)
We would open our stocking stuffers while my mumgot the turkey in the oven (at least a 20 pounder) and then would open pressies.we were then allowed to play with new toys until about 11 when it was all hands on deck getting house and ourselves ready for the 20 or so realitives to arrive.after christmas supper we would all head up to the park up the road with tobogans to do a few runs and back home while kids played and parents played cards.
This year having our christmas meal on christmas eve as kids are off to their dad's christmas day after they open pressies and staying for a week...I always hate the rest of christmas day as I am on my own as all my family is back in canada 
Oh...my different tradition is strings of popcorn on my tree instead of garlands or tinsel |

In Liverpool there is a tradition of everyone always wearing new clothes on Xmas. From what I gather this not a tradition in a lot of cities?
I think it stems from the poorer days when our parents only got new clothes on Xmas and Easter. |

we always did that as a child - the first time i went to the exes on xmas i got all dressed up - new frock the lot - they were all in jeans n such - got me out of washing up tho  |

when I was little my parents never put the tree up till we'd gone to bed on xmas eve. Made it extra special when we woke up on xmas day not only to Father Christmas leaving presents but the tree with the lights on being in the lounge.

My mum since I was about 8 has always disguised presents with her wrapping, like putting kitchen roll tubes on the corners of boxes etc so we couldn't figure them out as easy.
Still bloody does it now |

I do that and sometimes i put things in shoe boxes so it can't be guessed  |

As the unmarried one in my family I still count as one of the kids and get a stocking!
My sister-in-law admitted last year that it's her favorite Christmas shopping as it's simple, inexpensive and silly things. So I'll be getting one for a long time I think!  |

When my dad was alive we always went for a pint or two at the club before xmas lunch.
For the last 12 years there is nothing better than being woken up by your daughter and watching her face as she opens her presents. |
