3/4am every morning for me. I enjoy it sat in the dark, no cars, no people just the sound of nocturnal animals going about their business, although the local owl does like to wind me up, making me think there’s a crying child awake.

"I sleep for about 5 hours then am awake for 2 then sleep for another 2-3, which means I need to be in bed for about 10 hours"

You have a medieval sleep pattern.

That was a common way to spend the night for our ancestors particularly in the winter months.

I’m perfectly happy on about 6 hours with an occasional short nap late afternoon or early evening.

Never stress about it.

oh I know it only too well at the moment .

I’m going into a 2 month sleep deprivation due to pain issues caused by arthritis which for some reason is 100 times worse why lying down trying to sleep .

Only way I can describe it is like gnawing constant toothache in my joints

15 years of working days/nights & nights/days absolutely destroyed my body clock. Have been off that pattern nearly 7 years now and it's never returned to any sense of normality I'm afraid.

Can you sleep propped up? Maybe on a recliner chair. Or put a beanbag on your bed and lay back with your upper half on it semi sitting. I found the beanbag helped me when I needed to be a bit upright. Comfy enough to melt into.

I think it’s old age

Haven’t slept more than 2-3 hours a night for more than 20 years, a good nights sleep seems to be an unattainable goal, I live life tired but have learned to live with it. Hope you manage to get some good sleep soon OP
