The greatest British onscreen charmer since the 1950s has passed away at the age of 98.
Leslie Phillips, who will always be remembered for his introductory Hello and Ding Dong!, really wanted to be taken seriously as an actor, but was stopped in the street by thousands of fans to say Hello! and was typecast in that role.
May he rest in peace; he always brought a smile to my face, since his first major role in the film, Brothers in Law. |

I knew somebody whose wife was a theatre manager. Apparently he appeared in a play there and he was told at the end of the run that he will never be allowed to work there again. Apparently his behaviour towards women was not appropriate. Unfortunately that's what comes to mind when I have heard about him since I was told that. |
