People nowadays think they are so entitled. Lot think they are owed the earth, push their views onto others, and the sense of community and supporting each other has merely gone. It's all about competition, materialistic and popularity. Sad times we live in. |

I recently came across this statement in a movie and I think it perfectly summarises what you just said :
‘There's always gonna be people that project some kind of dynamic onto us that serves them.
It's up to us if we wanna play ball or not.’ |

Yes, I think social media is responsible for a lot of this, a combination of having an outlet for their opinions, with echo chambers of people thinking the same gives them a feeling of not only are they right, but also their opinion is important and that somehow no one should ever disagree with them! |

Pretty much . It does seem people are more selfish & screwed up , I blame it mostly on social media & not being able to have a handle on their own life ( just my opinion) |

I agree with the social media sentiment.
Remember when the internet was promising and was marching towards being a digital Library of Alexandria?
Not that it isn't still but,.....social media IS the turd in the only bucket of fresh water in a desert.

Don't think I've ever heard social media described so accurately.
I'm stealing that if you don't mind.

Some people are born with a sense of entitlement and have no respect for any opinion that doesn't fit their own narrative.
Some are permanently offended and if they can't find something they believe is aimed directly at them they will be offended on behalf of others even when no offence exists.
Social media is full of professional victims and those who believe normal societal rules don't apply to them.
Those who flaunted travel rules during lockdown to climb mountains for their next IG pose were a prime example.
Mountain rescue teams were required for those getting lost in the dark wearing bikinis.
There's just no excuse for idiots and their enablers. |

Everyone is entitled ..hate that word tbh but what can l do atm...to their own opinion BUT you do not have to listen to it and can tell them straight away you're not a bit interested, you know them straight away ,as the ol' saying goes you have to listen to Thunder but you don't have to stand out in the rain , if people want to harp on ..let them ..but not to you . |

There are also plenty of people not like that, usually they don't have an obsession with social media.
You might find them at a book club, or hiking group. |

Agreed.
I think your view of society very much depends on who you surround yourself with.

I agree up to a point. As a long time member of a hiking group though it is frustrating to come across large groups of people who are clogging up country lanes by abandoning their cars for hours on end and preventing farmers and emergency services from getting through.
I have SAR experience and the number of people putting themselves and others at risk for their latest waterfall or cliff edge insta post defies belief.
"All the gear and no idea" is nothing new but the big issue now is "no gear and no idea" and weekly posts on social media from people putting up pics and asking where they are because they are lost and have no clue.
Personal responsibility isn't something that sits well with those who always know better. |

Including those who ignore the signs and continue to allow their dogs to roam freely off lead despite warnings from rangers, police and farmers. |

I like to think I'm a very 50/50 person, I have my views sure but I'm always open to listening to other people's and sometimes my views change on things (usually because I've not fully understood something).
People that are "my way or the highway" aren't really for me. |

I feel a sense of community with my friends and non of us are materialistic or crave popularity.
I think a lot of the original post is lazy clichés rather than an accurate reflection of society and community |

It’s wrong to single out niche groups, and I’m not even going to suggest any as special. Our whole culture now is about self image and you can be or have whatever you want. It’s not motivating, its raising unrealistic expectations that for the most part go unrealised and then just causes resentment about the World. By all means be encouraging, but temper it with if you want that you’re going to have to work for it. It won’t be given on a plate. |
