You will probably gonna call me a conspiracy theorist or paranoid, but have you started prepping? We all know that the UK has taken a fall financially. This means that items of food and things we need are going to get really expensive and hard to come by. No electricity. How are you gonna see things when it gets dark and you have no electricity and no way of producing light?
Do you have extra layers of clothing you can put on when the gas and electricity are cut off or run out?
Do your research on what it was like back in the 1930s when they had the Great Depression. People could not afford food people and became unwell due to malnutrition, The cold killed people and made them unwell, and other people trying to survive (When people become hungry and cold, they are nasty aggressive people - It's called the survival instinct. It's in every living thing).
I'm not trying to dramatise this and make people scared. You don't have much left. Start prepping. |

We have bought lots of batteries for our batterie operated lights and radio we already had and a few other bits but we are very lucky that it's very likely we can financially weather this for a few years. |

One thing vivid and lockdowns taught me was a lot of the shit I was buying I didn’t need
Couldn’t be arsed to que for stuff so did without
Heating I like to be warm but putting a few jumpers on to save cash isn’t the end of the world |

If you really believe this it’s time to look at your anxiety levels.
Buy a torch and one of those mobile phone battery packs if you want, stuff that could be handy if you go out for a long stroll anyway. Anything else is a sign that you’re struggling with stress and you should try and get some help for your own good. |

Prepping gets some adverse publicity, principally as a consequence of some US fanatics; but prepping is simply a way of being well prepared for adverse or unfavourable conditions.
I have been studying it, thoroughly, for about ten years, and have made some contingencies for myself.
One critical rule of good prepping is never to mark yourself out as a prepper; secrecy is a key element! |

People have been prepping for a while now and become more popular with the fear of nuclear war. The problem is the media love to whip us up into a frenzy and jump on a bandwagon. If covid taught us anything it's there's a lot of bullshit about. OK to have a few items ready incase of power cuts etc, but anything more and your looking a bit paranoid. If those power cuts last too long though, then yes all those preppers will be rubbing their hands at the thought of the end of society as we know it.
There was a study a few years back that said we only need one week without power in the UK and we would all be at the point of no return, society would be gone. Something like the walking dead but without the zombie's. Nice thought eh |

I was a teenager in the 70’s and remember the strikes and electricity cuts for days at a time. People queuing for petrol for days. Food scarcity.
We survived.
Don’t hoard ridiculous amounts but do have some things extra in the cupboard. Wear layers and use less heating. Keep some battery operated lights.
But look out for the vulnerable and share when it’s needed. |

I don't think that's true. In the 80's we lived in a town that had no power for 10 days. It was fun but everyone managed and did the best they could. |

got plenty of tinned and dried foods (eg pasta etc) and bottles of water to see us through the winter .. stuff we will use naturally anyway if need be but in the event of shortages etc no need to panic.
Plus toilet roll bought lots when there ISN’T a shortage to make sure we don’t deprive anyone if there IS one! Got way more than we need but over time we will use them.
Also buying lots of wheat based products now (eg breakfast cereals) as the prices are already significantly up and will probably only get higher so just stocking up now at lower prices.
Not going OTT or owt like that but just making sure all is ok in the event of another shock like with Covid! |

We keep the camper van stocked and ready for trips away so I guess that's a sort of prepping. It does give some sort of security to know we can get by in there for a good few days off grid so a few hours without power doesn't worry us. |

A few hours A-day doesn't worry us it's just if it becomes longer term. |

I'm stuffed then, I tend to nip to the shops at least 5 times a week for my evening meal that night.
Don't have a single candle or battery in the house. I think I have a couple of loo rolls left though. |

I worry about my kids, I can deal with being cold and hungry but the thought of them being cold and hungry does worry me. The youngest has about 239 snacks a day (ok that’s an exaggeration but you know what I mean) but then again both our boys are still in shorts and refuse to wear trousers so they aren’t currently feeling the cold and we’ve only had the heating on a handful of times.
We have blankets at home anyways as well as warm clothes because of the kids sports. We don’t have any battery lights or anything like that. We needed a torch for bonfire night and had to use a bike light!
We didn’t stockpile during Covid just did our normal weekly shopping with what we could get- often not a lot thanks to greedy wotsits!

Guess what?"
Bread is only £8 a loaf and the bank has blacklisted you?! |

"I'll survive on the vegetables in my allotment and have candles for light "
Ideally put the candle in the middle of a large plate, so that if it falls over, nothing will be burned.

Lighting, after dark, is vitally important in the event of a power cut; I have an emergency lighting system installed at a single point in my home that facilitates the use of all the main rooms without having to light each room.
Lithium batteries in headtorches are available, if required.
Small LED torches, at 30cm above height, on the stairs prevent tripping and falls, as does a wire at waist height at the top of the main stairs, in case of complete lighting failure, including LEDs.
Commonsence preparation is the key, to prevent accidents, but without going over the top; some videos online by the US preppers manifest an unhinged, paranoid fearful mentality, especially with the use of firearms to deter attacks by zombies! |

"Yeah, we bought 150 quilted bog roll and 10kg of pasta. Fuck knows what we do with it."
Bog roll pasta al forno is very nice. A little parmesan sprinkled on it and you have a taste nutritious emetic. |

We’ve been stockpiling grass cuttings as they are a great source of heat and sustenance.
Our plan is to bury ourselves up to the ears in them and just wait out the crisis whilst taking small mouthfuls.
Always have a plan.
That’s our plan. |

Baked beans, musical fruit. The more you eat the more you toot. The more you toot the cleaner you'll feel, so have your beans for every meal |
