"I like a bit of vintage rope but it is rough on the skin. silk ropes are much softer and easier to manoeuvre. I don't want rope burns whilst wrapping. "
Yep, silk. Easier to knot, and unknot, with my clumsy fingers, too. |

"Question for riggers and bunnies.
What is your preference in rope.
Jute, hemp, cotton or any other type, and why
"
Jute- it flows through the hand nicely and I my opinion feels more alive and lighter than hemp.
If you use cotton or silk ropes, just be aware that they are softer and compress under tension, this means that it’s possible to pull a knot tight and it will tighten further as you release the tension from the ends; this will jam the knot in a way that can be unsafe at worst, or at best result in an unsexy panic as you search for something to cut the rope or call the fire brigade.
For those of you who are new to rope, please invest a couple of quid in a set of EMT shears with a bright coloured handle and keep them somewhere accessible while you tie! |

Very true on all counts: yes, looser ties to allow for tightening under movement/pressure. But that is one thing I like about silk. The tightening is a reminder of who tied them: a touch without touch. |

The problem is when that “touch without touch” causes nerve damage, or cuts off circulation long enough to cause permanent damage, or can’t be removed quickly if the bunny has a panic attack.
Rope play is edge play and should be treated as such; educate yourself, be prepared for the worst case scenario and never play beyond your skill set or risk profile. |
