Not many people owned a TV. They used to 'rent' them. There was a box on the back that you put a sixpence in. A man used to come round to empty it and if there was more than the rental amount in, you got the excess back. Our family used to decide together what treat to spend it on.. we got so excited when 'Telly man day' came around

"I remember £1 notes "

One of the local garages had a 24hr pump that took notes, remember using it to fill moped up, trying to get old £1 notes that were crumpled up flat enough to go in the slot.

Sundays deserted streets, the smell of roast dinners, Londons Burning on in the with Sicknote, George and a young John Alford.

Car with carburettor engines warming up on the drives and the little electrical milk cart doing its rounds.

"There were just 3 channels on tv"

The national anthem followed by the white dot and high pitch squeal when the BBC closed down at night.

We did not have central heating. Just a fire in the front room. In winter there would be ice on the inside of the window ( not double glazing)..

Freddie’s used to be 5p

Tv with only 3 channels and all end at midnight

Tin baths in front of the fireplace

Going to school in winter time with no heating on in the building being told put a coat on

Being sent to the shops for a few bits and that includes buy your dad cigarettes no questions asked for age

The local coal man

The local milkman

Health and safety well that actually had sense

And my favourite one

People had a sense of humour and wasn’t easily offended by everything
