"If old is about having falls, I've been old since I was 31.
Be careful not to conflate being old with being disabled. You can have falls but still be young!"
Does that make it more about your general health than your age then?

"Physically or mentally?
Either???
Luna"
Mentally I think is older (obviously unless health hits) so many elderly talk about still thinking they can..but being let down by their bodies

Yes, health/disability and age are independent of each other. I am not old. I'll be 37 next month. But unless I'm very careful, I fall due to having a disability. |

Disabilities aside if you do fall, do people say you fell over or that you "had a fall"?

I thought I was old when I turned 30, after a few weeks of feeling sorry for myself I realised I didn’t feel any different and not felt old since.
I guess the falling over or having a fall test is when you stop being able to getting up by yourself then I guess it’s a fall ?? |

Anything over 70 is "getting on a bit"

As some will say its more about attitude rather than the number. Some people seem to have been born middle aged and can't wait to be old! Just got to try and remain interested in what's going on now, try and stay fit and healthy. Have to say when it comes to the latter it's starting to get more difficult. However, I know quite a few people who are younger than me yet seem to have almost given up. Just keep on trying to be young.
Nb One definite sign is making noises when you sit down or get up and of that I'm guilty. |

"just had a peek at you mell you dont look 51
Lol thanks
But age is just a number "
I never understand this expression. We are the age we are, that number is a fact that is bound up with all aspects of our experiences, expectations and health. Its great to be healthy and energetic at any age but this doesn't make us any younger, unfortunately. |

Dunnoo... I never really thought of it too much.
I guess the bus-pass age? 60. The retirement age? 66/67
My parents are 75 ( Pop) and 72 ( mom). Mom falls a bit but hasn't broken anything. Dad never falls.
My granny reached 80 and never had falls.
My great-grandfather lived to 98 and I don't remember him falling at all. He did ride a bike until he was 80 so good balance I guess?
I have an ex-colleague who is in her late 50's and she keeps falling over and breaking parts of her body.
I just played with someone over 60 and he still plays team sports and could keep up with me someone 20 years younger.
I have friends who had knee replacements in their 20s and 30s.
It really all depends on the person, their lifestyle and their genetics.
I tell the kids ( age 25 and under) I'm old so they don't expect me to sprint all over the workplace. They are always faster than me. I always remind my self that I cannot physically compete with 20 year olds. Lol!

Fortunately birthdays during lockdown don’t count so I knock 2 or 3 years off for that, let’s call it 5 or 6 for round figures.
That puts me pretty much in my early 40s, give or take, but I’ve never had any physical problems so I’m basically 37
Which is *still* fucking old |

There are definitely stages of life. You listen to different music, have less crazy nights, have different interests.
It has a lot to do with health as well as family constraints.
In the last couple of years, I have got younger health wise. I also have no real family constraints having never had kids or been married.
So, in my fifties I am able to go to the gym after a night shift, have a couple of hours sleep and then go out to the pub if I want.
Sexually I have also been regenerated and feel more sexual than I did 10 years ago. I am able to keep up and stay up.
I feel better and better as time goes on. So being "old" has so many factors and only one of them is age. |

Beginning to think its when you think of comfort over style.
Not sure what that means for men, maybe the cardigan thing. For women I feel it includes deciding to wear flat shoes instead of heels and a coat when I leave the house.

I remember thinking when I was turning 30 that it was ancient.
44 soon and no longer dreading getting older.
I do feel middle aged due to my adult child constantly reminding me of my age.
Though health wise no complaints.
Best I've felt in years. |

To the younger colleagues: "you are going to get in trouble and then don't come crying to me" " what happened to your brain?"
Older Colleagues: "How's your pension? Mine's fuck all. we are going to have to work here forever at this rate!" "sorry my old brain isn't working today" |

Well, the drop dead gorgeous 69 year old lady fast asleep alongside me who has a body that some women in their 30's and 40's would die for, and has everything in her wardrobe to tease and please her chosen guy doesn't seem to think she's old, and to me her techniques in looking after a guy in and out of the bedroom could knock spots off the skills of average bimbo. |

I think 60-70 , it’s the point at which your body and/or mind begins to limit you , for many, not all. I hope mine doesn’t. Currently I’m fitter and sharper than most the guys I work with 2/3 my age , I can’t see how that could be possible at 70 |

Age is a frame of mind, I only have one grandparent left my Nan ( mums mum ) she’s 99 in December, she lived independently until she 92 and only moved in with my mum because she had a fall in the house, but my other Nan ( dads mum) she turned 60 and gave up thinking “ I’m a pensioner now, she died at the age of 72.

Eye focus up close is a big one. I have noticed since getting over 40 my short focus is slower i wear glasses and my optician told me it’s something that happens to everyone once over 40 we start to degrade with focusing ability for both distance / short at same time.

I have put in a complaint at the local supermarket.
I told them that the isles are too narrow.
I don’t require any more room to move about, I just can’t stand far enough away to read the price cards they put in those little rails on the front of the shelf. |

One sign you're getting old, young women start smiling at you like you're just some harmless guy who reminds them of an uncle or grandad.
Given the change in attitudes it seems that even the option of becoming a dirty old man isn't allowable now6 |

I am 61 and still as active physically as when I was at 21
I coach Boxing, at my age I no longer compete but I’d doesn’t stop me getting in a ring and sparring with a current professional in his early 30’s
I have moved my martial arts training into the more subtle internal arts rather than the hard and fast styles
As far as bedroom gymnastics go nothing has changed. I have slowed down slightly which means a more longer time is spent building a lady up rather than the quickie from days gone by
So to answer the OP
I am too old when they nail down my coffin |
