"Eat a spoonful of sugar - works for me every time
Isn't that just useful to help the medicine go down?"

Hiccups is all to do with trapped air in the diaphragm and you have to expel it. This is THE only 100% cure for hiccups:
Take a big gulp of air and purse your lips and exhale as slowly as you can until there is no air left in you at all. If you hiccup during the procedure start again.
You're cured.

Hiccuping is caused by irritation of the Vagus nerve... trust me, I researched it after having hiccups for 40 sodding hours last weekend!
Anything that distracts the brain from "listening" to the signals from this nerve will help, so, in no particular order, here we go....
Tickling the ear canal
Shocks (as in BOO! lol)
Sweet stuff (someone mentioned eating sugar, put it on the back of your tongue for added effectiveness apparently)
Slowly drinking water
Holding your breath
Be carefull with the second, I got so tired and frustrated I tried holding my breath too often at about 3am, and nearly passed out! These work because the carbon dioxide builds up in your body, and your automatic responses kick in to deal with this, forgetting about the hiccups.
So, after 40 hours, what worked?
No idea, they just stopped lol! |

"Spoon full of vinegar"
+1, this really does work as I proved to Bonnie about 2 hours ago although she's claiming it doesn't and I was faking the hicups in the first place to wind her up |

I tend to gather saliva in my mouth while having hiccup, then swallow it bit by bit when I feel a hiccup is on its way. That usually stops after 3 or 4 swallows. |
