Weekly Mental Health Check-in 24.10

Good morning all, time for another check-in already!
I’ve had a mixed week, started off very emotional at the start of last week. Got upset at uni (it’s allowed because it’s a heavy course looking at personal development!) and my tutor really struck a chord when she said to me ‘crying’s really healing for you isn’t it?’. I think she’s right, I’ve always thought I cried easily but I think it’s because I push things down until I’m full. The next day I was feeling tearful about my mum so I just let it out and felt so much better for it.
I’ve also been having a crisis about self - I think I’ll post separately about that when I’ve posted this though because I’d love to hear people’s reflections and comments on it, and this space here is about everyone, not just my experiences! I’d welcome you there if you’d like to have a look for it after! Anyway, spent the past few days feeling a little better and had a great conversation with a friend on Saturday evening with lots of food for thought. Overall I’m doing ok today.

Really tough week last week, currently off work due to a person jumping in front of my train.
I thought I was doing okay (or as well as anyone can in that situation) but had my first counselling/trauma last week and it just hit me how much 1. The incident has affected me and 2. How the incident has brought up a lot of trauma from childhood and the past that I have never really dealt with.
Putting my trust in the process is a big step forward for me so let us finish on that as a positive

Can you contact your doctor for an emergency prescription and explain? You should never just stop taking anti-depressants without it being a gradual reduction x |

Oh bless you, that’s a lot to carry. I’m sorry you’ve had that experience, but if there was unresolved childhood trauma there for you then at least this is an opportunity to work with that.

Im doing okish this week, i think.
Had an appointment with staff phycology at work last week, after a long wait to hear from them. But it went well, and im going to get 6-8 sessions with them, so thats great. Spoke about quite a few things, and i need to have a think about what my key values are for next time. I have completely lost touch with who i am and what i enjoy doing. I have withdrawn so much from everything, so that will be a tough, but good excercise to do.
Also have an appointment with a physciatrist this week. Am hoping for an increase in meds rather than a complete change. So finally getting some much needed support.

Day by day. Still got a feeling that it hasn't hit home properly yet, expecting to see her walk through the door even though funeral was 12 days ago.
Dad now on the final leg of his journey, strong drug cocktail keeping him comfortable but mostly unconscious, while everything slowly stops working. Could be any day now.
Becoming more and more aware in a visceral sense of how many of my friends, and friends of friends, have lives touched by death or other tragedy, either time past, present or soon to be.
Strangely though, not feeling any great weight or darkness about any of this. More that this is part of the way things are, the way things always will be, just another part of what it means to be alive. If that makes any sense at all. |

That all sounds like really positive movement. It’s amazing how much effort it can feel to find out way back to who we really are- it feels like it should come so naturally! I’m glad things are in progress for you x |

Yes! Absolutely! Please look up Dr Kathryn Mannix on social media, I think you’ll get a lot from what she has to say on this. I had a strong death anxiety and one of her books helped me to get over it, I really love and value her work and the messages she’s on a mission to get out there. The Good Grief Project is another really good one.

Got told two weeks ago that my role did not make it through budget cuts.
Thanks, could have let me know before the summer so I could have left in september when the market is better! Interviewing before year end sucks... |

Shit, utter and absolute shit at the moment. So much going on that overwhelmed doesn’t even grasp the idea of how I’m feeling. Going to crawl under the duvet for a couple of days, let me know when the works stops turning, thanks |

That’s very sweet thank you. It will pass, I’m sure, I’m just not finding the strength in me right now to deal with everything.
