In ancient Greece it was a time when monarchy was relatively newly established and norms were rapidly changing as a consequence (I come, as many do, with an Athenian bias). It's hard to say how quick changes in mores would have been as a result - but such a change would likely result in friction between the old and the new. If kink is defined as acting outside sexual norms, then potentially such periods of change might see an increase in types of activities regarded as taboo. |

I think a "kink" is what's outside the norms of the time, not what we consider improper.
I can't go into the details about the extreme hangups of the ancient Greeks re sex I'm thinking of at the moment, they're outside Fab rules.

Very fair points, though the writings we have from both Greeks and Romans which touch on sexual expression - nit that many - quite often speak of sexuality in prudish, disapproving terms. Look at Plato's description of Socrates, describing his youthful libido as like 'being chained to a madman'. The Satyricon of Petronius Arbiter is, again, rather self-indulgently contra the established mores of the temples, eyc.
So there is at least an argument that Greek and Roman societies, varied hugely over time and space as they were, were often quite judgemental of sexual expression - especially female sexual expression. |
