“Normal”

It’s not uncommon, both on Fab and in wider online dating, to see people specifying they are looking for someone “normal”.

It’s often formulated as “Are there any normal guys left out there?” or similar.

Unsurprisingly, I have never yet seen any of these people specify what they mean by “normal”. This is of extremely limited use. “What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly” et cetera.

What do you think these people mean by “normal”?

Isn’t that the Fab motto?

I'm guessing it's a guy that doesn't lead with sex, someone who can strike up a conversation about anything and even meet and do the same, the sex thing is pushed to the fore here but normal people don't walk into a conversation naked, I might however I'm a naturist lol

You know at the end of Crimewatch when they give you a “most wanted” face pic montage. I wonder to myself if any of them are or have been on Fab.

Because…….they could be.

And that’s a scary thought.

"If they're on here they're not normal. "

They can be! Lots of "normies" on fabs

Thing is, people may have deviated on this one particular aspect but still want to meet casual sex partners who look and act like everyday people. Granted a lot who use this phrase don't have much experience - I've seen it lots and was this myself when I started, you think you're entering an arena of utter pervs and weirdos and that somehow you are inherently different. The more your talk and meet the more you realise that even some extreme players are still pedestrian in their every day life, in every other way "normal".

However having said all that, most of us do have a point where something/someone gets "too weird" - you can see this often on the forums when someone posts something that is way out there, or feel it when you get the offers you can definitely refuse in your inbox. So I guess what they also mean is "someone who is as adventurous or kinky as I am but no more" Again, naivety to assume there is a standard in this.

Why is it scary though, I view myself as normal I do normal things, I tell people most of what I do, why is it such a big deal to be on a swingers site, I mean the term swinger dates back to couples throwing their keys in a bowl and swapping partners but to all intensent purposes for singles it's a dating site for many, the regulars who've been here years go to clubs and meet up in them but for many it's to find a partner or find someone to have sex with because they are in a sexless marriage but it's nothing ' special' just because you are here you're not special or daring or innovative you're just you.

"If they're on here they're not normal. "

Pretty much what majority of civilian society would view all people in swing/sex hook up sites lije this as yes

I have a couple of non swing / sex casual peons I know (wouldn’t say friends though ) , in discussions have mentioned about swingers / porn models / casual sex dating sites. They thought it was vile and abnormal that people would want to live like this .

Did chuckle though when they admitted to watching porn online each month to masturbate though. Killed me and one of them drinks alcholol / smokes

I think they mean free of unnecessary drama, not inclined towards extravagant gestures.

We are almost all normal as much as we'd like to believe we're not but also all unique and interesting in our own way

The Town by The Cross

Sometimes people use the word 'normal' when they mean ordinary and they use ordinary to mean Doesn't have to be a 6ft adonis with a six pack. Doesn't have to be Venus de Milo ......

I guess it could be their opposite to 'exceptional' or 'outstanding'

Like baby bear's porridge. Not too much of something or not too little of the other...

Just normal in their eyes.

We're all normal to someone.

When I think back to my working life I met probably thousands of people. There was possibly one maybe two whose behaviour was not within my admittedly wide definition of the range of normal.
