Ferdinand himself said that it could at least have been a pound coin! Not a fan of the man and his inane Tweets but fair play to him for making light of it.

Southwick

Things must be good up north if money can be thrown away. On a serious note it could have been more serious and fair play to Rio for making light of it. Hope the coin thrower is outed.

Somewhere near NE Derbyshire/S Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire border

Having seen the footage on a news channel. If said fan is charged over it, will he as I was instigating it with his gestures? Also if u watch it in slow motion, it looks as if he actually does it him self as ur goes to pull his shirt over his head !!

Think Rooney made about a tenner with all the coins thrown at him when taking a corner kick.

But in all seriousness!!! It was an act of stupidity which the game doesn't need with enough controversy in it already

Who knows

Having worked football security for at least 10 years, have seen first hand the damage a coin can do when thrown. Myself and workmates have even been on the receiving end a few times.

So to answer the question the kind of person who throws a coin is usually a crowd warrior, one that likes to hide in a crowd and not be noticed but if confronted by anyone be it ground staff, police or opposing fans usually cries like a little girl

So if you pardon the pun, there you have the other side of the coin

That's what I thought he'd done when I first saw it, but he later picked up a coin from the ground. Ok, that could have been a coin that was thrown anyway and didn't hit him or anyone else.

In slow motion here, it's clearly a thrown coin....
