Where’s been ur favourite short break away

We had a lovely weekend away years ago, just outside Chester.
We also had a wonderful 4 days in Mallorca once (although we've often spent longer on our trips there).
We traversed much of the island in that time. |

I just got back from Lisbon, had a great time exploring Alfalma, Graca, Bica, an awesome city and very cheap travel, food and accom.
I also like Seville, Budapest, Riga, Amsterdam. Verona on my list for 2023

There’s got to be little to beat Barcelona.
Fantastic mix of the historic gothic quarter with its tiny streets and great tapas bars. Then it gets a little more modern as you head down Las Ramblas, lots of shops, restaurants and hidden courtyards and terrace bars.
At the bottom of that, you have a beach! And for the sports fans, the rather imposing football stadium. Once you’ve done that, head in to the hills to visit the castle, with it’s amazing sea view where you can sit and watch the planes heading towards the airport and the ships in the docks, after you’ve had a wonder round. It’s also fairly near the old Olympic stadium (not overly exciting though).
That lot alone beats some cities…but then you have Gaudi. Various examples of his architectural brilliance to discover around the city, with the highlights being Parc Guell and the jaw droppingly impressive Segrada Familla (go early, book in advance and make sure you also go in to the underground museum).
I think I walked about 8 miles a day when there- and that was with having a bus pass too. Still didn’t cover everything, place is amazing and one of the few to make the return visit list. If you can, also try and find a local who will explain the whole Spain/Catalan situation, as that’s a pretty fascinating discussion over drink and some nibbles to while away an evening |

I absolutely love Ljubljana in Slovenia. It’s small enough to feel you’ve got the measure of it, but has enough depth to keep coming back. Gorgeous old town vibes in the centre, built around a river. Excellent castle. What else could you want? |
