There's an option to tick saying don't contact reference before interview. Does that mean they only contact my current employer if they intend to give me a job offer? |

I’d expect that to mean they won’t conduct any reference checks prior to you attending an interview, personal or professional. |

I think most recruiters would appreciate that candidates wouldn’t want references from their current employer BEFORE interview.
They’d miss out on the best talent if they did, surely. |

Ive just jad the idea of asking informally to the advertiser, to ask them.
It's a permanent job whereas my current job is agency. The work seems ro be drying up and not sure if they have anything else i can do. If they knew they might bin me for not showing any comital i thought |

I think most recruiters would appreciate that candidates wouldn’t want references from their current employer BEFORE interview.

It seems to be assumed standard practice in many industries. I get around it by putting "refs upon request" on my CV. I do let my manager know if I'm applying for other stuff though, because it's sensible. |

Back in the day if I was applying for INTERNAL company positions I would tell my boss. As they would invariably be told anyway!
Never did for external roles and those companies never requested them before offering me a position anyway.
Not sure if that’s changed now in the current employment environment as it’s been donkeys years since I applied for a job in a corporate. |

In education, it's assumed you tell your employer when going to interviews (you usually need a whole day anyway) and it's common to ask for references at the interview stage. |
