Not depressed - incredulous maybe,
Taking steps to maximise income with side hustles and looking forward to the next general election.
Downgraded from Sainsburys to Aldi to Approved Foods
Bought my children oodies which has done the trick on the cold front |

When life brings you lemons, make lemonade.
As I’ve got older I’ve understood the importance of this more and more.
It’s easier said than done (of course) but wherever possible try and let things wash over you and don’t worry unnecessarily.. it’s much better for peace of mind and mental health if you can remain calm and rational and try and navigate through the worry.
I appreciate it’s not going to be possible or easy for all, but most of us will get through this, we need to be as resilient as we can be, and as pragmatic as we can be to mitigate those worries we have wherever we can |

"I'm more worried for other people. As it stands, I'm ok, but plenty of people won't be.
I blame the tories for shifting wealth towards the wealthy over the last 12 years. "
I blame the people who voted for them... and again...
Mind you I also blame Labour for being too shit to vote for too. |

No, could do with losing half a stone so will eat less. Joking aside, there are loads of really simple sacrifices that we can make if we ever had to.
A friend of mine mentioned she was worried but then her own phone contract and family tv package alone is over £100 pm more than mine She doesn’t want to sacrifice those things to be able to be frivolous with the central heating
She completely understands why I have no empathy for her |

Should we accept a drop in the living standards we've become accustomed to? |

I’m on the fence with this. No, we shouldn’t have to! But if people believe they can’t do without luxuries to be able to afford basics, what’s the point of learning to budget?
I love ‘stuff’ and we’re fortunate that we don’t have to second guess whether we can go out or book a holiday.
If we couldn’t afford it though, we’d have to cut our cloth. I wouldn’t carry on spending because I thought I was entitled to those things.

Yes I completely agree with you. I do think though we need to be wary of making a virtue out of hardship. Cutting your TV package is one thing but where is the line to be drawn? |

Yes, you’re dead right! That’s why I’m on the fence. We’re so used to having freedom to spend that it would be difficult to go back to life 30-40 years ago. At least nowadays we have things we can do without, when I was a child there weren’t really any extras that parents could get rid of I suppose |

Well 30 years ago we had a toddler and a new baby, things got extremely tough at one point and we literally had nothing to cut back on except essentials. Possibly this experience has influenced my opinion and I'm loath to let go of my luxuries now. Like you though I am on the fence but I get a bit fed up (this isn't aimed at you) with people saying "oh just cut back" or "put an extra jumper on" when some people have been doing this already for years and there's nothing to damn well cut back on. I think there's a lot of 'let them eat cakery ' about. |

Yeah, not looking forward to the long days of going out to work and coming home in the dark, never having gone outside in the daylight all fucking day. It's miserable.
Really looking forward to our family holiday in Tenerife at Christmas! |

This is exactly where I am coming from on this. Because of government mismanagement people are going to have to alter the way they live and in some cases quite significantly and a lot of people seem to think that's OK. |

Yes, I'm sure the people struggling to make ends meet would agree. It's not made up that basic food, energy and a multitude of other things have increased significantly in price. |

I don't agree with that.
You know things are probably going to get pretty bad for a lot of people, That will still be happening and surely it is better to know about it than bury our heads in the sand than pretend it isn't happening. |

"One thing the government should sort it is sky high rents ...They need capping really...
Some of the worst off are working renters..."
Totally agree with this particularly in London as it's absolutely insane. We are exceptionally fortunate and have a very affordable rent however that cannot be said for most people. In our local area the average one bedroom flat is £1100 a month and that's not for anything special. |

I worry about my daughter and her bills, as her electricity bill has gone up drastically.
She'll never be cold though; her flat is a new energy efficient one and always hot.
I help her as much as possible and I'll starve before I let her and the babies go without.

That's the bit I have a problem with because nobody should have to starve to make sure somebody else doesn't. |

Yeah, it's been going on for years.
Exhaust, alienate and put the population into a state of ambivalent acceptance.
Then do what you like and blame it on this weeks soft targets.
Today, enemies of growth.
Apparently. |

It was probably labour's fault.
If not it was the EU.
Or perhaps the pandemic.
There's no way the government can ever be considered responsible for, erm, bad governance. |

Nope.
Gas is 4p/kwh, Electric is 19p/kwh fixed until '24 and only £700 this year, reduced to £200 due to government rebates.
I have a 9kw Solar array, big batteries, a 6kw stand-by generator and 200 litres of diesel.
Enough LPG Propane to run the boiler for two years after conversion from Mains.
Two portable Gas heaters and 25x bottles of Butane.
Mortgage is fixed at 2.55% until 2029.
Just got an EV, costing peanuts or even free to charge at some places.
Just bought 250 Gas Heaters and they're selling like hot cakes.
Getting paid to advise others how to Off-Grid or survive prolonged power outages.
So, pretty good really.

Not directed at anyone in particular here but there are certainly some daft comments flying around. Like many have said, there are those that can cut something here and there and those that frankly can't. It's sad that people are suffering already with worse to come. Even here lots of people have bravely shared how hard is/will be for then. And for those pontificating that's it's just the war in Ukraine, need to look a little closer to home and the mismanagement of the country's affairs due to political ideology that is affected so much our life and our standing as a country internationally. Not personally into partisan politics, just say as I see it and it's certainly not a picture to be proud off |

It's absolutely nothing to do with partisan politics.
Years and years of political fuck ups from ALL parties who have all had fingers in the pie and in various ways, left this country in the state and vulnerability we are seeing today.
Energy failures mainly started with Blair right through Cameron to now.
Thatcher started the housing disaster ball rolling, but Labour were in long enough to change it.
They ALL have blood on their hands. |

Perhaps.
But I'll first blame the fuckers that have had over a decade to sort that shit out... and didn't. They made it worse. |
