I'm less enthusiastic since logs and coal doubled in twice.

I do. I get logs for free so it's great. Otherwise no; messy, smelly and expensive.

Titz Towers, North Notts

They're nice, but terrible for the environment due to the particulates they emit.

I love it - and the smell the day throughout the whole house is lovely.

I'd love a log fire. I've got a chimney, just not sure it's ever been used, or how long ago...

Near Abercynon

Yep. We spend quite a lot of time staying in a caravan which has a log burner in the awning, it's super cosy.

If you ever think of using it, get it swept first!

It may save your life.

If you had stinging eyes this would suggest that smoke from the fire was coming back into the room, something is wrong with the installation and the consequences could be lethal, it’s probably as well you are not using it.

Last year in my old house I bought bags of coal @ £5.00 from supermarkets, diy sheds etc.

Today I was in Wickes and noticed they are on special offer @ 3 for £ 24.00

They have shot up

Love my open fire in the winter especially as I have a lovely pile of wood from cutting down trees in the garden, free heat for me which is an extra bonus at the moment.

A good chimney sweep will be able to do a condition survey - mind you this is their busiest time of year and good ones will be booked for months ahead.
