I have disliked the grasping commercialisation of it a little bit more every year for the last decade....
But THIS year....I am looking forward to it.
I have de-ex'd my life and will have my house refurb 3/4 done and peace will reign (as much as 4 teens let it) and I will rest |

Every year I try not and get excited about Christmas as it's one of the biggest waste of money (in my opinion) but every year I get sucked in and now, my son's 28 year old gf has never experienced a proper family Christmas (only had her first wrapped gift last year), so I guess I'm getting excited again! |

That's a sweet reason.
As much as I hate xmas, that's a pretty good excuse. |

Count me in , it’s a commercialised nonsense, yes have a day of celebration, and be with those you love, but the months of garbage and profiteering is out of control , my kids , who are in their late 20s have to make me a card and present , I won’t let the waste any money on it, the results are usually hilarious, and items that I will keep for ever ! |

Hate Xmas , Sunday lunch you can buy at a Toby carvery suddenly costs 45 quid . Chocolate cones in special selection box doubles in price . I never know what to get anyone . Most the time in working or on my own . Nah bloody humbug . And top it off Sainsbury in Nantwich is putting Xmas stuff out in October WTF |

Be gone you Scroooooges!
It's over the top and far too commercialised but I absolutely love the feel good factor it brings in December. That one excuse all year for meeting family, friends and loved ones that you haven't seen for food, drinks, games and good times. I just associate joy and good times with it I guess. But obviously I understand that there is also the complete reverse flip of that for so many people who have had nothing but grief, heart ache and sadness to associate with Christmas.
When someone asks you if you fancy a drink after work anytime in December, I love how your response can be, aye fuck it sure its Christmas !

Serious post now !
I lost my mum at Xmas 3 years this year
That year, with hospitals and drips and bleeping machines and everyone walking round with tinsel on , laughing like they didn’t have a care in the world make me want to die too.
However , it brought our family together . Appreciate what is important . Not the gifts , or the bullshit , but love and family
I was scared I would hate Xmas forever. My daughter is absolutely obsessed with it , for no other reason than the ‘ atmosphere and being with family and everyone being happy ‘
And that’s what it’s all about

People bang on about how they hate the commercial side of it, but it's your choice how you do Christmas.
People are just generally nicer, twinkly lights, mulled wine, seeing friends, cheesy Xmas films, mulled wine, family, mulled wine.

No but had on his left the donkey of his dad
And on the right the cow of his mother …
For me explains a lot of the real life of the miracle baby who was born , to save the human world , with out being conceived .

Not me. I love it.
I get it and understand that some people don’t like it, or it’s a very difficult time for them if they’ve lost loved ones. For anyone in that situation my sympathies.
I have lost 2 grandparents (a few years apart) very close to Christmas and it certainly hurt, but I do like to think of the positives of the season, the nostalgia and happy times I’ve been fortunate to have over the years (again I appreciate that not everyone will be so lucky in that respect) and so like to lap it all up!
It can generally be a positive time of year if you want it to be, nice sparkly lights, carols, hot chocolate, giving to others, the ice rinks, the family time, the parties .. I don’t think anyone should feel guilty or apologise about enjoying the Festive season.
I don’t understand why the haters have to be so vocal about hating it, but hey, each to their own I guess..

Don't forget those Twixmas baies who later grow up to realise that their birthday is going to get expensive later in life due to the Xmas tax.
Try booking a hotel, restaurant or holiday or as a December birthday treat, without getting scalped.

I was r*ped for 16 years straight on xmas day by wider family.
Plus, I am autistic so have sensory issues around much of xmas.
But *I* am the one being vocal? Not the constant adverts, or xmas music, or expectation to love it - and be labelled a scrooge if I don't- ?
I am sorry that my rejection of enforced merriment bothers you. |

I’m sorry to hear of your experience and it must have been horrific. I can’t even begin to understand the pain you’ve been through.
To me that’s clearly a hugely legitimate reason to dislike the anniversary of a life changing event, my point was for the generic haters who like to signal their dislike for the season in general, most people are fortunate to not have experienced such events and Christmas is a time of great celebration.
A lot of people are very vocal because Christmas simply isn’t for them, eg they dislike the commercialism or the traditions around it.
I don’t see why these sort of people would wish to deny millions of others the enjoyment they get out of the season. |

I dont celebrate it, there are lots of things about it I really dislike, specifically the consumerism. But I love seeing other people enjoy it and try not to be too much of a killjoy.
But I do get annoyed at people who try to convince me I should celebrate Christmas and that somehow I'm wring for not celebrating it. |

People hate Xmas, because they can't escape it, it's rammed down their throats that they can be publicly shamed for what ever reason. Calling someone scrooge/bah hum bug is just as damaging to some who've been traumatised by death, divorce, house fires or any other tadgedy, which is supposed to not exist. Lest upsetting the masses.
The only people who are allowed, nay encouraged to be miserable at this time all drink in the Queen Vic.
The lack of choice and nowhere to escape to is what causes the problem.
Seasonal affected depression needs to be mentioned as well. |

"Me !"
Every year for the last 9 years, I've spend Christmas alone! These have been the best Christmases I've ever had!!
No familial demands.
No hanging around with people I don't like.
Decorating how I want.
Eating and drinking what I want.
Watching what I want on telly.
Giving myself presents that I like!
And if I feel like going to church or cycling no one to pooh pooh me about it!!
Absolute bliss!! There is literally no other day of the year that I get to do this. |

I'm used to having things ( not sexy things) rammed down my throat without escape all year round and called names for it.
I actually get to escape all of that at Christmas which I spend alone.
My ex actually had a go at me one year because I wanted to go volunteer for the people that were actually lonely instead of spending all day with his co-dependent self.
Now I view Christmas as a day to do whatever the F. I want without intrusion. |

I can’t be arsed with it, but I’m not a miserable curmudgeon with it either. I’ll put on my best smiley face if I’m in company. And I don’t deny those who love it, their joy either. |

I use to love it but not bothered by it anymore it's just another day now but has an extra nice dinner as far as I'm concerned. Mind you I work most of Christmas anyhow so maybe that's why I have lost so much interest in it. |

I absolutely love it. I'm feeling a bit sad about it for the first time ever this year because my mum spent most of December in hospital last year and passed away a few days after Christmas day, so it has kind of put a bit of a grey cloud over it because it's the first Christmas without her.
I totally get why people don't like Christmas. I think if you don't have much of a family, or even money it can make you feel a bit depressed and isolated. |

Not a massive fan tbh.. it’s just lots of organisation & expense. As a single Mum of 4 I spend a huge amount of time & money buying gifts & organising stuff to make it special for everyone else.. I kinda get left behind in all of it.. |

I hate what its become....the commercialisation! That being said, I absolutely love seeing the faces of my niece and nephew on Christmas morning and spending the day with my family. That's what Christmas should be about! |

I have hated Xmas for the past 18 years after waking up on Xmas day morning to find my 6 month daughter had passed away.
Certainly tried to keep things ‘normal’ for my son who was 8 at the time after and the subsequent years since but now… I don’t have to plaster a smile on my face and go through motions because it’s what’s expected.

"Just think Xmas has got out of control, Jesus the adverts are starting already..
"
On this subject- went to a charity shop in my home town, about a week ago, only to find they were selling Christmas stuff in full swing! Didn't realise Halloween has been and gone |

I don't hate Christmas as such. What I do hate is the commercialisation and materialism that goes with it. I mean, Christmas advertising and Christmas goods on sale in September?
Until the late 80s (maybe 90s), I can remember that Christmas wasn't even mentioned until the start of December. Nowadays, money talks. |
