Is muscle squishy?

OK I know this might be a dumb question but I'm legit trying to figure out if these new bumps forming on my arms and shoulders are the results of all these presses and curls or... Just more fat

Or does the muscle like, push the fat up? Gym bros help me pls

I always heard that if you have a lot of excess fat and build up muscle, you won't be able to see that muscle until you lose the fat because muscle sits underneath fat. Is that not right then?

If you’re newish to lifting at your age you will build muscle very fast.

Some gyms have this machine and you stand barefoot and grab handles it will accurately measure Skeletal muscle mass and body fat percentage , this will tell you how much muscle you’re building and what’s happening to fat levels. I find it quite useful

It kinda goes muscle - fat - skin, but it stands to reason that if the bottom layer grows then it affects things overall.

In terms of muscle definition however, you can’t get “cut” without dropping to an unhealthily low %age body fat.

So, yes, gaining muscle can make your arms bigger, but also the toning effect will probably make your waist smaller at the same time.

Is your weight changing at all ?

You could always get some accurate body fat measurements done . That will give you a better idea of what is happening to your body (with regards to composition) in relation to any changes.

That’s the more scientific approach.

In answer to the OP, fat can sit in all sorts of weird and unexpected places and it's different for everyone.

It's been about a year, still fat tho

We do have one of these machines where I go, but it's in a welcome area where everyone kind of congregates before/after classes and would 100% be able to read the screen, which I'm not comfortable with.

I've noticed places getting more defined, like my butt and lower back. But this is the first time I can see what looks like muscle of any kind and I didn't want to get overexcited in case it was still just fat ahahaa
