Going by Krypton the tv show
Superman’s power comes
Form earths sun being younger and stronger
And the or planet has less gravity than Krypton
As can be seen in Krypton season two
When zeg el was on krypton he was just like a normal human
When he went off world in season two he started developing powers
Also spoiler warning
General zod is is kal els unkle
He is the child off zeg el and lyta zod
He has a 3rd unkle as well who name is
cor vex who is the child off zeg el and Nyssa-Vex
It’s ashame that they end the show
We never get to see jor el being born
Who is the youngest off the 3 bother as per the time line
Cor vex was born in kandor
Zod was born after brain act snatch’s kandor city no info on whare he was born
And no info on jor el

Kryptonite only became a thing when krypton exploded and pieces of the planet became radioactive.
Thus Superman can perform magnificent feats of strength because Earth's gravity doesn’t affect him as much as Krypton's stronger gravity would. And his unique physiology is further boosted by the positive effects of a yellow sun. |

Agreed, and the reason why I’ve never enjoyed any Superman movie since. Only Henry Cavill in Man of Steel came anywhere near to that level for me. |

As per Superman: The Movie, his powers came from being in completely different environment, mostly tied into a more dense molecular structure (invulnerability), higher gravity (flight) different light emitted from a red sun (x-ray vision).
Hearing was due to a combination of the above, but the heat-vision has always been up for debate.
As for the stuff at the end of Superman II (creating optical illusions, throwing a plastic "S", etc) then that's just the result of desperate reshoots. |

Complete with human beings breathing in space, the Great Wall being rebuilt by Superman merely looking at it and other atrocities.
It wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't have left a 3rd of the film on the cutting room floor, as it would flowed a lot better. Oh, and if the producers hadn't had siphoned off nearly half the budget into other projects, it wouldn't have looked so bloody cheap! |
