Mobile internet connection

Anyone else on my3 internet connection and find it terrible?

We are on it, managed to get the 5 bars but its so slow, often (especially between 6-11pm) slower than the old 56k modem! always disconnecting to!

We are going to go with BT but as we may be moving soon we are waiting for now.

Anyway, we are going to get another mobile connection, so can anyone tell us a good one that is quick and stops connected? must be pay-as-you-go though.

Thanks, Shaz n Tony

Hi There. I have no experience with PAYG 3G connections but I do use a Vodafone one in connection with my joab and that works OK, unless you are on a train of course. As far as I am aware 3 are notorious for poor coverage so I would try one of the more established providers. Just get them to check in the shop that the area you will usually log on has a good level of coverage (especially 3G). Hope this helps. Pete.

I used to use a 3 dongle but moved on to an O2 one at much the same cost and better results.

But that being said, it depends very much on your local cell and the usage it's getting, not the signal; as well as all the other normal bottle necks.

3 is complete crap, althought there is a workaround for it, 3 have deal where their users can use the Orange network. I'm not sure if you can do it on the dongle, but on their mobiles you can switch to Orange if your 3 signal isn't very good.

Have a word with the 3 technical department, and use 0800 3586795 so you don't have to pay for the call

i have used 3 now for a few years at first it was rubbish so we rang them and they said they would send us a wireless router ..it now works just like u have broadband ..it is just a litle box u put where u get u strongest signal and ur dongle plugs into it and now i can use laptop anywhere in house with no probs it does cost arnd £80 but as we had been with them a while we did get a discount ..its worth a try

Using a 3 dongle this very minute, in a location where there isn't supposed to be any coverage! It lost connection a couple of times last night but reconnected without too much trouble.

Had huge problems in the Aberdeen area though, barely 5 miles from the oil capital of Europe!! Got on to 3 and although it didn't help while there, they've given me another 3gb which at my present rate of useage will give me at least another 3 months use.

The bottom line is that none of the mobile companies give perfect coverage, but 3 is supposedly the best, coverage wise, and they're about the cheapest too. Be very careful with VF, if you go over your allocation the excess charges are the highest in the business!!

Thanks all for the info!

I have been reading feedback on a mobile internet site and the worst feedback seems to be for my3 so trust me to get the worst!

@cute little minx

The router idea would be a good idea if we had a weak connection but we are maxed out on 5 bars so signal is already at best

@jetfoyle

we may be moving soon and won't always be using the mobile connection at home so ideally we need to find something with a fairly good coverage everywhere

@arclight

Yep, we are learning its crap, sods luck we buy the worst

thanks for the technical department's number, i'm going to give that a try!

@The Glaswegian

We are always losing connection, not so more early in the day, its after about 6ish, normally ever 10-15 minutes, then when we are connected can take a few min to load 1 webpage, its real annoying though as it really is quick in the day time.

I have been told we can get a modem with a little areal you can pull out, are they any better?

We switched to a 3 mobile dongle after the 2 months worth of horse-shit that we had with Tiscali over our phone line. We get 5 gig a month for £7.00, it's easily as fast as a BT line, no worries with disconecting or watching movies on you-tube and the customer service is pretty good as well. Suppose like most things mobile it all depends how strong a coverage area you live in. The only slight downside is that it sometimes slows for an hour around 6pm, but then we used to get that with our BT line as well.
