Not yet. I've massively cut back expenditure a couple of months ago and putting in some overtime. But I can see the financial situation becoming bigger than the War Chest I've been building. So I will, I have no doubt of that. My union is still dispute with the company and more industrial action is on the cards, so that should wipe a good bit of my reserves. However its a fight we must fight, as those before us fought. If we don't we'll continue to lose and be walked over year after year. If you stand up for yourselves you may lose. If you don't you always lose. |

I'm in southern Spain At the moment camping behind a garden centre. I don't need heating and don't really cook stuff right now. Shops are so close. I'm in a house for a couple.of weeks. Do you mean hand warmers? |

The biggest expenditure for people is a mortgage (assuming you have one). For people whose mortgages are about to change, expire etc..it will be a huge shock as rates will exceed 6 per cent, probably even higher within the next year. Grab the cheapest 5 year rate as soon as you can. Studying economics is a curse  |

This is what I’m looking at doing. Fixed at 2.29% until June. Exit fee £950. New deal 3.73% for 5 years or 3.88% for 10. Payment will increase by £70 p/m but save me £250 & £250 cashback

Yep, and have been for a while what with food costs getting higher and higher as the months go by. My energy fixed rate ends on the 12th October, which will be a real issue. |

Until recently food has been getting cheaper year on year since the 1970s due to our EU membership & strength of GBP. We only spend around 10% of income on food now compared to 25% in the 1980s and 33% in the 1970.
Of course all this is all changing now , food prices are expected to quadruple over the next 5 years particularly fish,, oils and fats. This is already happening with prawns increasing 67% recently |

I hope it won't too. We saw the value of our house plummet overnight too. Luckily we never went into negative equity but a lot of people did and were left with mortgages they could barely afford that were higher than the value of their home.

Interest rates don’t mean much out of the context of the salary : house price ratio
15% is bad, but when the average house is only 3-5x salary isn’t not awful
Depending where you are In the uk house prices can easily be 10-12x salary. Suddenly 15% becomes world ending.
I’m truly worried for everyone with a mortgage that’s close to the renewal date

Not noticed here yet, and I doubt I will particularly, I don’t have any kids and I don’t have a mortgage. Electricity usage is not that high. And a weekly food bill rarely goes above £40. I only drive for fun and I just got a particularly nice promotion and raise. I think this will all show who the people that appeared well off on the outside though while the bank really owned most of their cars and houses .. |

6 or 7 years left on my fixed rate mortgage, and solar panels, I'm going to swerve the brunt of it for the big ticket bills, but yeah I'm noticing my everyday spend is up 15/20% on a similar shop per month. I'm lucky enough to buy bulk and have the space to store is for a lot of things, but that's hardly a long term solution, and it just means I have to buy 12 lots of e.g. shampoo to get each one back to the same price I paid for one before the summer. |

A woman on Question Time even said that her bank removed the rate she had signed up whilst she was in the process of buying a house and she can no longer afford to go through with the purchase. Xxx |

I keep a speadsheet which I enter gas and electric weekly readings into. I can see exactly what my usage is and cost. Would not have a "smart" meter so this is next best thing. It does not help pays bills but at least I can see what they will be. |
