Does anyone know the criteria applied when the check out person gives you a token?, because I can’t work it out.

North West

You might have to be a tad more specific!

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Do you mean the little plastic discs to put in the charity choice box?

If so, they usually give them everytime they remember they're supposed to give them out.

I’m surprised, you seem very nice (I don’t get them very often either)

Slow days, no queues you're more likely to get one, in my experience.

My supermarket stopped doing them, but they used to just leave a pot of them at the end of the checkout and you grabbed one (or 3) when you finished packing.

Not sure how many tokens you’re meant to use (I.e one per transaction or per-value such as one every tenner).

In terms of distributing money…

Both Tesco and Asda give something to all the charities open to voting. At Tesco I think the most popular cause gets £1500, next gets £1000, and the third gets £500.

At Asda I think it’s £500/400/300.

Not sure how the charities are selected for Asda. In Tesco, charities apply online and store staff vote which are selected for each voting period.

God. Just re-read the above. Can’t believe my Saturday nights have reached this low!

Also… I googled… so for Tesco you’re meant to get one token, regardless of spend. Asda don’t seem to publicise, but if you use the self-checkouts, you can grab a handful!

"I use the self service and grab a handful"

There will be a place for you in heaven.

…unless you just take them home, that is.
