Under achieved at the last 2 tournaments and now he’s sucked the life out of what should be a vibrant squad. See England cricket for what can be achieved in a short space of time with the right people in charge… |

"Yeah - hilarious! sack the manager who took a very average team to a world cup semi & euro final in consecutive tournaments - talk about short memories & "educating pork" you couldn't make it up!" and lost the final due to be out thought by a proper manager and as for players Harry the snail McGuire tells you exactly how clueless he is

"How fickle football fans are.
God one minute loser the next."
To sane rational people he wasn't a god.
He has a very good pool, I'll say pool because he picks a weaker squad from that pool, which is one of his negatives.
He got 2 very lucky draws in the last 2 tournaments. And one of those was basically a home tournament too.
While playing these teams he sets his team up negatively, which is fair enough if you like boring, scrape a victory football, but eventually won't work in every game. |

That was one of the dullest football games iv ever seen pass pass pass pass lose ball pass pass pass pass lose ball someone fucking run at someone have a bloody go
And still he does nothing to try win the game his sub timings are crap il go for it when 1 down and gave subs 15 20 mins to make impact hes obsessed with not losing it rather than winning games clown show no idea what to do with flair players its roy over again with better players |

Asking for Southgate to be sacked is a bit harsh, considering what he has achieved with England on the last two competitions.
I would judge Southgate on how well he does the world cup, if the performances are still the same then consider change of new manager.

Any manager that plays HM says enough tbh , HM is probably a nice person but as a center half he is stone useless. |

He’s been so lucky with the draws in all the tournaments he’s had. Come up against a decent team, we lose. |

I would like to see Southgate out, he should never have had the job. Like others have said he has been fortunate in some of the draws, however with only weeks to go until the World cup starts, is it not too late to bring in a new manager?
He will survive until we get beaten and come home with our tails between our legs I fear. |

"Oh dear
Indeed - has to go " championship manager and league 2 centre half tells you a lot about the manager he’s picking players that can’t even get a game for their clubs I can see England struggling at the WC it’s not just the last two games it’s the fact we seem to struggle to control a game and score |

Insert *he’s done it again! Dirty little bastard* video meme.
Tbh I don’t like Southgate. Think he’s massively overrated as a coach. But think sacking him before a tournament is absolutely fucking insane |

"Some of you must be feeling a bit silly now" why’s that ? I still remember the previous performances and the final where Southgate was completely out foxed by an experienced manager but then again what do I know |

Not really - he should never have been given the job and has under achieved in his role. "
Southgate’s tactics are definitely ‘express yourself’.
This team should be European champions if we’re being honest and have been World Cup finalists |

To be fair GS will not be judged by his employers in these games but a pretty dismal WC he will be gone and probably get a job in the premier league of the back of having some success with England give him credit he picked the team up after that disappointing tournament with the previous manager |

Meh... Really? We have too many players off form at the moment and a couple who seem to be really struggling. |

The players England have mean they play with an explosive, almost improvisational style.
However they can't do that for 90mins.
But they lack the players to slow it down. That's where you need competent defenders who are comfortable on the ball. And a nice QB of a defensive midfielder. |

From the last 2 tournaments - should have beaten Croatia in WC semi final and Italy in last year’s Euro final. Both times we took an early lead then he got out thought… |

"Southgate Out (again) " the knives have been out for GS for a while now he’s knows a bad WC he will be gone as I said earlier he deserves some credit it’s funny I prefer the England team of the 90s early 00s probably an age thing |

A better coach wins the euros against Italy imo. And a better manager beats Croatia in that semi final. Both of those tournament runs, we only faced beatable opposition with the exception of Belgium in the WC who beat us TWICE in the same tournament- convincingly. |

Well partially agree....coulda shoulda woulda...but we didn't.. 3 of our players missed pens...
And tonight doesn't explain why the players were stood like statues for much of the second half. 4 of our players aren't even in form for their clubs right now. We should be better.. But we aren't.. What maguire has to do to get dropped who knows. |

Convincingly ? It was 1-0 in the group game |

To be fair to Southgate, I think he's doing the best he can with what we have. Yes, we have an explosive attack and great full backs but we're definitely lacking in quality in midfield where we can start our transitions and as a result, our buildup play is non-existent and teams can easily overrun our midfield and get at our shaky defence. Maguire has done well for England but his confidence is shot and there's no quality back up pushing for places.
I don't think we'll do well this world cup and feel it will be Southgate's last tournament. |

Are you saying you’ve never seen a convincing 1-0 win? That was a convincing win for Belgium. As in they were the Bette side and controlled the game, no? |

I hope it's his last one for his sake, three tournaments is plenty for anyone's stress levels! England look to have a fair draw to the Quarters in the WC then who knows ? We have recent tournament experience and success which is often valuable, and we do have matchwinners up front. I actually think Maguire did Southgate a favour tonight with his mistakes as he can be safely dropped for the WC. |

That's true, but I genuinely think Southgate doesn't let the stress get to him and would be more than happy to carry on. Who would you bring in to replace Maguire? |

I think Tomori is a very solid defender in good form although Southgate hasn't given him many chances. With Stones and Walker he should be fine. |

Rice? I didn't even know kane was on the pitch tonight and when our heads dropped that's when you want a captain to inspire his team onwards... Not start playing out of position. |

Bellingham and Saka when he came on made a big difference...and mount in fairness. Sterling is the new john Barnes for me.. Plays out of his skin one game in 30 and seems to have 2 left feet for the remainder. |

Bellingham, Saka, Mount and Foden are genuinely exciting players. Would love to see them all start but probably not with Gareth in charge. |
