Was speaking to a colleague recently who told me she was going with her bf to a date night special at the local steakhouse. I immediately said "ah, have they run out of everything else?" to which she gave me a very blank look.

I waited a few seconds, then did the sheepish "because... Dates, are, um, they're also food...". She then proceeded to slowly and carefully explain to me that they would be eating steak, and that date night refers to dates in the romantic sense.

Anyway I've got a thousand of these stories so just wondering - are there others like me? Do your jokes often bomb or just go over people's heads because they take you too seriously? I mean I have quite a deadpan delivery which I think makes people think I'm not joking.

Or are we... Just not funny?

Yeah my bio both on here and tinder (also very piss takey) get taken far too seriously by too many.

But then it's nice when someone gets it and they're on your wavelength. It's a good filter

I have same issue as you . And I’m lovely and a bit of a joker not a jerk .

- Sense of humour sadly sometimes can be dangerous. Specially if is a new contact … some one who knows you for longer or years is easier cause they know how silly and armless we are .

Sometimes a little joke cames out wrong ,

Sometimes the person just does get that u r only playing . Or her sense of humour just doesn’t match .

Sometimes people don’t put effort to try to understand what u on about .

Can happen sometimes a person takes everything serious and literally , they have no sense of figure of speech etc n u just can’t play with them . Autism for example can cause that .

Sms or chat , is a very dangerous conduct of missunderstanding . They take it the way they want , no body language , or voice tone … they don’t see how u mean what you say xx

And sadly many people rather to ignore , or even block then try to put effort to understand …

I been blocked many times for no reason .over little armless jokes .

I lost serious love cause of sms missunderstanding and no effort to understand me .

So … doesn’t mean is necessarily your issue .

Communication is emission + reception

In your example :

If she got confused wouldn’t hurt to ask :

What do you mean ? Sorry I don’t get it ….

If u asked me that :

So they runned out of everything else ?

Even I don’t have a clue what u just asked I would had answered :

Yeah … all restaurants are closed and she is the only twat available to go out , I’m starving so yeah … we have to go to that shit hole . Hopefully she will pay as I’m not in mood to pay at all … I need do my hair .

And we would crack ourselves laughing as we know is a lie : first I never go barbers , second is my girl I love her , wanna make her happy and u know it … so hopefully will be a happy date ^^

So don’t worry sweetheart , sometimes is not you who is not funny .

Is them who are boring n put no effort

When I don’t understand I say straight away .I hate barriers .

I hate misunderstandings . They very dangerous and they can hurt a lot and cause Irreversible damage . X x

I would of asked what you mean't and then by understanding, laugh. Sometimes I take what someone says literally and not as a joke lol.

I would have laughed. I know I've got a bit of an odd sense of humour though.

I've lost count of the amount of messages asking me what I'm studying or that I'm a long way from Australia. Guess it's a good filter for those who get me and those who don't.

I think you nailed it with the deadpan comment. Plus, it sounds like this was a very quick response and some people miss the joke because of that.

I am extremely deadpan and also quick-witted. Some people say I'm the funniest person they know and others think just the opposite.

So, I'd say ditch the violin and carry on with the quips!

I know I'm not funny. BPD/EUPD gives me a morbid sense of humour and autistic traits mean people have no clue what I'm talking about. Sensory processing traits mean I don't pick up on my tone or other people's tone and nuance and subtleties.

it's ok I can't change it so I just hang out alone or with my tribe.
