Why don't you use a comparison website to see who has the best deals etc, don't just use recommendations from here as everyone will have a different idea as I like Halifax but my friend doesn't. I also wouldn't touch the co-op or Alliance & Leicester though their mortgage side is fine |

As suggested above, check comparison sites, I did that recently and one of the 'on-line Banks' came out tops.
...Might've been the one View suggested, can't remember the name |

I use nationwide, it is a building society but provides all the services you can get from a bank. It is the largest building society in the world and it does not have share holders it has members. Not long ago barclays tried to charge people for cash machine withdrawals. Nationwide made a legal challenge and prevented this from happening. good job because all other baks would have followed suit. The co operative building society is also a good choice |

"Smile Bank (Part of the Co-op) online, been with them years..."
Have to disagree here.
If you want a perfect working example of how online banking worked in 1999, join Smile/Co-Op. |

"I want to open a new bank account would anyone recommend me a good bank apart from Barclays.
Cheers"
If I was changing I would go with Nationwide as its one of the bigger ones not to sell itself to shareholders. It is a solid institution which is not beholden to shareholders so it gives its members more if you look at the big picture. |

I agree their benefits aren't brilliant (although they do some excellent online accounts and high interest ISAs) but they don't mess you about. Their helpdesk is a lo-call callrate number based in Swindon, and their overdraft fees are almost non-existant.
They might not be best for people with high incomes wanting extra interest on their current accounts, but for church mice like me they're great. |

Got to agree. My sister banks with them and you can't transfer funds without going into a Co-Op bank. Not so good for an online bank really. |

If it is a general personal current account I suggest you look online for a comparison in terms of what they offer. Some offer cashback for leaving your old bank, others offer incentives of savings over 12 months for having your DD changed over ... can vary a bit. I did a bit of research a couple of months ago and found the comparison quite worthwhile |
