But, is there anyway of redefining the search for events and meets to a more local level ?.

The South East is a huge area .

I am sure it was mentioned somewhere else but I cannot find it .

There's the Advanced Search Option, and you can use PostCode searches in there

Not in meets and events you can't you can only do that in browse.
