Sleep Advice

Apart from shutting your eyes, what sleep advice do you have and how is your sleep pattern.

I go through cycles and often awake in the night for a while then nod off again.

Keep your phone out of the bedroom. Charge it in another room. As soon as you reach for a device you're screwed.

I’m bad for using my phone and even watching Netflix on it when I’m falling asleep as my alarm is on my phone so I need it. I did try getting an alarm clock but it was terrible for waking me up..need to look into getting one that would actually wake me!

But I have tried listening to sleep stories….either YouTube/Spotify that have helped me switch off and drift off nicely

My actual sleep pattern is terrible though as I do shift work, often sleep only a couple hours and it’s usually not a great sleep.

No distractions

Cool, quiet room

Sleeping aids - bbc sounds do sleep music

Go to bed when you are tired, not when you feel you should

Avoid alcohol

Avoid caffeine

My sleep pattern is good.

Most days I get up between 5&6 work hard physically & mentally , keep in touch with friends and family regularly , resolve any issues before bedtime and by 10 or 11 I’m ready for sleep.

I literally fall asleep within a minute of my head hitting the pillow. A really good feather pillow with Egyptian cotton cover - it’s hard to stay awake.

Excuses

Put your phone at the opposite end of the room so you can't lie in bed with it. Read a book or write something or have a wank but train the brain that bed means sleep.

Also, pay less attention to me. Its 4am and I'm on my phone haha

In my happy place

Cant sleep if I go to bed and haven't showered clise to bedtime.

I like a pillow mist, so I cant smell soap powder.

If i cant sleep i use the 4,7,8 beathing technique.

Lie on back breathe in gently for 4 seconds, hold for 7,breathe out slow and steady for 8 seconds.

Repeat 3_4 times.

If I start talking about this topic I won’t stop…

First and foremost, learn how to control your breathing and begin practicing mindfulness. After years of doing so, I find it takes a LOT to affect my sleep.

What sleep pattern? Lol!

Mine's all hit or miss. a few things that make it a hit sometimes.

1. exercise that increases your heart rate.

2. yoga/meditation/mindfulness/breathing exercises before.

3. watching something on tv that distracts me from my overthinking.

4. noise machine

5. blackout blinds

6. weighted blanket on my restless legs only.

7. lavender mist

8. sedatives. lol!

9. sunset lamp.

I’m like you I can fall asleep naturally and feel exhausted but at bloody 9pm and I’m awake at 4am I know I’ve had a long sleep but it’s just not at the times I want

I also go thru different sleep patterns too where I can’t sleep at all drives me mad

Close your eyes, force a yawn and don't open your eyes after you have yawned. It worked for years on my kids.

A few basics.. don't use your phone for an hour or so before you go to bed (impossible for fabbers) and don't drink coffee after about 5pm.

Failing that, if your sleep pattern has gone crazy. Use an app like 'Sleepio' to help you reset.

I read the Kindle app on my phone when I'm in bed but I use a blue light filter app so it doesn't keep me awake.

On the nights I'm struggling, guided meditation on YouTube.

Pitch black room.

Tidy, non-cluttered space.

I like to listen to a podcast or audible book to send me off
