If we're getting fancy, do you want my variation on Eggs Benedict?

Toasted english muffin, two strips of bacon, large upturned mushroom (stalk removed) and poached egg in the centre of the mushroom. Hollandaise sauce to taste

Bread = White, toasted, crust on

Bacon = Smoked Streaky, rind off, but cooked separately. Cut in to smaller strips and cooked until crispy

Mustard = French or English, spread on one side only

Fat = Butter, spread on the other side only

The bread must be two slices in sequence, opened up like a book, so that they match when closed.

Toast the bread first, allow to cool, then butter on one side and mustard on the other.

Lay the bacon on the bread so that it is completely covered on one side.

Place bread over the bacon, cut in half.

Eat!

My late partner made his the same way as mine, so I know I am not the only person who is anal about how to make a toasted bacon sandwich.

Since I only had a couple of slices of toasts at about 07:00h this morning, I am hungry now, and need food.

Off to have a can of condensed of Campbell's (now Batchelor's) Chicken soup, one of my favourite comfort food, woo hoo!

This is the POOREST excuse for a bacon butty!

1. Stoneground Wholemeal.

2. Fatty streaky smoked bacon.

3. Sod all else.

1. Fry the bacon to a crisp

2. Toast the bread to golden

3. Put the bacon on the toast.

Eat the bloody thing....

Dip in fatty bitty pan if you want.

Wash down with a mug of hot tea.

Repeat all steps till no more can be eaten xx

Surpassed only by a B.L.T

I would not dip the sandwich into the fat, as I would always make a fried slice with the fat to enjoy after the sandwich!

er...guess

The ingredients of choice chez Jim are Ramsay bacon (google ramsayofcarluke) on a Morton's roll

If your insides can take a 'doubler' - add a slice (or two) marag dubh - Stornoway black pudding.

I don't like butter on hot sandwiches (unless it's chicken and stuffing oddly).

Perfect bacon butty for me would be the one I had in Sainsbugs yesterday morning... lots of smoked bacon nicely cooked (not too soft but not quite crispy) on lovely bloomer slices that are soft in the middle but with crusty, well, crusts haha! Oh and brown sauce.

At work on a Friday I'll have a bacon butty from the cafe with a fried egg, yolk split and brown sauce.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

Right, time to bring this thread to it's conclusion.

Grate some strong cheddar cheese.

Sprinkle onto buttered (or spread-ed) white bread

Grill bacon until crispy.

Place on top of cheese.

Allow one minute for cheese to begin melting.

Eat.

Savour.

Repeat until stomach explodes.

Up North :-)

Crispy bacon and I mean bacon not that water injected crap you get form the supermarket but the real stuff from a butcher. It has to be grilled along with tomato and crispy lettuce on Parisian French bread with full jobbie mayo.
