In my happy place

My stairs have stupid sloped ceilings and my new bed wont fit up the turn stairs. The newel post is in the way.

How do i know if its safe to be cut away. It doesnt seem to be load bearing, as it doesn't go up to the highest point, but theres no gap at top.

Ask a builder. I know more about tits than building regs. And that’s not saying much.

Personally I'd take the bed apart

couple, us we him her.

The newel post is an integral part of the stair construction.

However I have in the past made removable sections of post, handrail and spindles when I used to do basement conversions for this very reason.

Without seeing it I can't say definitely yay or nay.

But a good builder would be able to advise.
