Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
This anniversary has been lost in royal coverage, the protests, Ukraine and Chris Kaba.
I remember the reporting, the lack of policing and the court cases. Doreen Lawrence was quietly inspirational when I met her.
Stephen Lawrence, we remember you.

I think its because we usually remember the anniversary of his death rather than his birthday. But he’s 48! Same age as my mum! It’s sad. I’m proper sad today. |

"Stephen Lawrence, you’d have been 48 today had this wretched world not failed you "
His mum was at the university I was at when he was murdered. It was horrendous. It was also around the time of the bnp bookshop marches so everything we did to try to support stamping out acceptance in a world filled with racism was a massive challenge. I hope they eventually catch up with and imprison all the guilty including those in the establishment. |

I have no adequate words for this. He was failed, and in so many ways.
I'm not black, but as a non-white man from South London of roughly the same age, I can say we all felt this, many quite personally.
As an aside, his mother is one of the most inspirational women I can think of, even if it's a role I'm sure she'd give anything not to have had to take on. |
