"Atlantic 252
Great station, remember it well, didn't think anyone else would say it. "
It was what I was going to say!
But also, my mate Arthur who ran a pirate radio station with about a 3 mile transmission radius. He did games hour, where he played spectrum games over the radio, so you could pirate them for your home computer |

"Radio 1, always hated commercial stations. Why would you choose to listen to adverts?"
I'd take adverts over the incessant inane drivel of the R1 DJ's any time.

Radio Caroline
Radio London
Ruled the waves and ruled the wavelengths.
Without the offshore radion stations AKA Pirate Radio there would have been no Radio 1 |

"96.3 radio aire esp James whale. "
James Whale used to invite listeners to sit in the studio. I went with a couple of friends. Was hilarious. Especially off-air when the mics were closed.
"It's all on Aire on 362" was their jingle. |

Just my local station. Mercia Fm and listened to Late Night Love with Graham Torrington I believe that was a country wide show or at least Midlands area. |

During the 80's
I used to listen to LWR.
Tim Westwood ( yes that Tim Westwood)
Used to do a late night rap show, I'd listen on my cassette player and record songs then boom them out on my way to school and breaktime.
Back then it was pretty much the only place to get the latest hip hop and rap and electro music before it became diluted into the mainstream.
I used to then save money from the window cleaning round I did with my uncle and once a month go to the import record shop in Greek Street in that there London and buy or order 12 inch vinyl.
Jumping forward a few years I used to listen to kiss 100 FM with sweet potato head Steve Jackson ( well that's what Ian Wright used to call him ) |

Mark and lard on radio 1!
Their best ever episode was covering the essential selection on one Friday night. How they didn’t get pulled off air that night is still a mystery
Close second was new dawn meeting of the minds on signal radio on a Sunday night |

Harking back to the days when local radio really was local
261 BRMB Radio in Birmingham
Local news, good music, plenty of local bands and fantastic sports coverage.
It seems truly local radio has died a death, everything seems to be syndicated now. |
