Wes Craven took inspiration for A Nightmare on Elm Street from a real-world story.
Craven recounted the story that influenced the creation of Freddy Krueger. He recalled a Los Angeles Times article from the 1970s about a family that escaped the Killing Fields in Cambodia. After fleeing to the United States, the young son had disturbing nightmares in which something was chasing him. The terror caused him to be afraid to go to sleep, so he would try to stay awake for days. The boy eventually fell asleep, but his parents heard him screaming in the middle of the night, and he was dead by the time they got to him. That boy died in the middle of a terrifying nightmare, leading to the main theme of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and its dream-stalking villain Freddy Krueger. There were other reported cases of men in similar situations who took refuge in the U.S. and later died in their sleep. The phenomena later became known as the Asian Death Syndrome.

The reason it takes so long for the shark to appear in the film is that the mechanical shark kept breaking down. It doesn't appear until about an hour into the film. |

"
To prepare for his role in Face Off, Nicholas Cage wore the faces of dead homeless people he found round the back of L.A. cinemas. He skinned then using an antique butter knife he stole from a local pawn shop and used Brad Pitt's mums Pritt Stick to stick the flesh to his face.
He only stopped once the director told him he wasn't going to actuall be wearing John Travolta's face in the movie, he was just supposed to pretend.

That's right. Rickman was suspended by a cable about 10m up. The director announced that he was going to count 1 - 2 - 3 and then the stunt coordinator was going to cut the cable for him to drop. The director had actually told the stunt coordinator to ignore those instructions and drop him on 2 to get a better reaction on Rickman's face!
Rickman subsequently talked about this with a mixture of good humour and thinking the director was a total bastard. |

Hit 1989 American buddy cop action comedy film Tango and Cash starring Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell was originally a RomCom starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Sigourney Weaver.
The film was chiefly directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, with Albert Magnoli and Peter MacDonald taking over in the later stages of filming, with Stuart Baird overseeing post-production. The multiple directors were due to a long and troubled production process, that included numerous script rewrites and clashes between Konchalovsky and producer Jon Peters over creative differences, finally resulting in a total rewrite, and the leading ladies scenes being completely cut. |

Martin Scorsese was such a fan of Psycho (1960) that for the main fight scene in Raging Bull (1980) he 'mimics' the infamous shower scene to the absolute second.
In both sequences each shot lasts the exact same amount of seconds and the scene/view changes at the exact same second too.
PS - Psycho was the first mainstream release to show a toilet on screen! |

Traditionally vampires could walk about happily in the sun. The notion they burn to death in sunlight was invented by Nosferatu in 1922 in an unsuccessful bid to stave off legal action by the Stoker family. Who ironically got the court to order all copies of the film be burned.
Luckily at least 1 copy survived! |

Jaws is supposed to be the biggest shark ever seen and all the way through both the 'expert' marine biologist and the 'expert' shark hunter all refer to the fish as 'him'.
However, Great White females are much, much larger than the males and seeing its meant to be the biggest... well... you can work it out...

An Englishman playing a Transylvanian
A Welshman playing a Dutchman
A Canadian playing an Englishman
Several Americans playing Englishmen
A Swazi playing an Englishman
An American woman playing an Englishwoman
An Italian woman playing a Transylvanian woman
An Israeli woman playing a Transylvanian woman.
And - yep - NOBODY cared. Cos they're actors! |

The very best source of trivia pertaining to movies is available of the IMDB website: thousands of trivial facts, for example, when filming Dr. No, Ursula Andreas was dubbed because she could not speak English.
The Ambassador's nosy secretary was made up to look Chinese, but was actually a well-known English actress, called Zena Marshall, who made multiple appearances in British TV serials during the 1960s.
Peter Arne, who appeared in many films, including Enemy Within and When Eight Bells Toll was murdered by a tramp whom he befriended and helped to regain his health! |

When filming 70's thriller The Marathon Man a scene called for staunch method actor Dustin Hoffman to have slept out all night in a smelly wheelie bin.
So he did just that.
And when he arrived on set next morning to shoot the scene he was suitably dishevelled and very whiffy.

The famous actor, Samuel Kydd, from Belfast was extremely prolific in films, on TV, etc., but a very prolific actor, whom you are highly unlikely to have heard of, was Ian Wilson, who played bit parts in a massive number of British films, most of them non-speaking roles.
You will undoubtedly recognise his face, but he largely went uncredited!
Dame Margaret Rutherford had a very untraditional and unusual relationship with her husband, Stringer Davis, who often appeared in her films in bit parts.
Margaret had parents who both suffered mental issues, as Margaret did too, and she decided she did not want to pass on her problems to another generation. Though widely lived and respected she suffered from lability of mood and severe panic attacks, especially before going on stage! |

Michael Hutchence (Lead singer of INXS) was reputedly told by his accountant that he'd made so much money from their previous album & tour, that he really needed to loose some for tax purposes- and was advised of a new government scheme to invest in the Australian film industry (which could be declared as a write off against tax liability).
He invested in a project put forward by Oz TV star, Paul Hogan...called Crocodile Dundee- which went on to make about $300m U.S. and pay back the investors many times their initial investment |

He got the role after being turned down to play Darth Vader, but making a good impression on director George Lucas |

David Lodge's favourite film was: The Cockleshell Heroes, which was about the canoe raid on Nazi shops in Bordeaux, directed by Jose Ferrer who was way above the age of the real participants.
Most of the locations can still be visited with the exception of the famous watersplash ford, at which David is soaked by a passing car as he returns to the Royal Marine base.

When Daniel Craig was picked to play bond, he was in a final 2 with Henry Cavill, Cavill was 22 at the time and deemed too young - plus they really liked Craig
IMO that gives Cavill a great chance of becoming the next Bond as he’s only furthered his case with performances like Mission impossible fallout and the man from uncle |
