Anyone else out there gathering Mother Nature's bounty? I am eating and freezing blackberries, making blackberry syrup, also for freezing, drying hazelnuts and munching delicious damsons. Just found an interesting recipe for haws too, which I have not harvested before. Free food, with the added pleasure of having collected it yourself. |

Another one for the blackberries here, and raspberries. Both frozen in the freezer.
Oh and some rhubarb all diced up too, if heading to the local farm shop and buying them there before freezing them at home counts as foraging!? |

"I was going to make elderberry wine but that heavy rain's knocked a lot of them off
Shame!
I'm wondering if I can collect enough blackberries and elderberries to make 6 bottles of mixed"
Go for it.Little to lose! |

I bet the Kendal crop of wild fruit available to you, increased exponentially since the demise of my Grandparents?! We used to be taken on day trips to fill masses of containers from all sorts of different fruit bushes. It was an industrial process in a tiny kitchen afterwards
I miss it |

We just been out picking blackberries today to make some blackberry whisky.
Got some sloe gin on the go as well. Also just started some sloe and damson gin and some damson gin.
Going to be doing some damson and blackberry jam tomorrow as well. If it turns out well might use it for Christmas presents.
I'm fortunate to be going on a foraging day down West Wales next year which should be fun! |

I don't know as I am a relatively recent migrant to the NW. It is a pleasure to wander the lanes and footpaths and stumble across such treasure. If I were a bit more of a man I could also take advantage of the abundant roadkill pheasant! |

I can probably tell you about some good (hidden) places to pick around that area, then |

Love foraging.
Currently have
wild strawberry vodka and gin
Wild raspberry vodka and gin
Bramble Brandy
Will be keeping an eye on my favourite sloe bush too ready for that.
Watching a remote Bucks walnut tree getting ready to let it’s harvest fall over the next week or two
Have pounds of scrumped cooking apples cooked down and frozen for crumbles throughout the year.
Mushrooms are on the way in the fields around here for soups and dinners (be careful if you’re mushrooming, all of them are edible, some only once)

The start of winemaking season is upon us in the Plex & Sex household.
Currently I have 3 gallons on the go, one of Elderberry, 2 of pear. Got another 10kg or so of pears waiting to ripen and there is an apple tree next door which I'm going to pillage in the next couple of weeks.
Next will be the red sentinel crab apples in the nearby park.
Got capacity for another 10 gallons of ferment but I may need more |

I'm not a fan of Christmas pudding so I invariably freeze down a homemade blackberry and apple pie to round off Christmas dinner. My house is on the edge of a forest backdrop, and everytime I go for a wander through the forest I see all these different fungi some of which are possibly what restaurants pay serious bucks for, but I'm reluctant to try them in case I get it wrong. |

If I'm out with the dog I will eat blackberries and blueberries from the Bush and collect dandelions for the Guinea pigs. I used to forage mushrooms until I poisoned my sister in law and she was sick for three days, looked exactly as they did in the book too. |

My Polish blood will have me out in the woods foraging for mushrooms soon. I also hunt and butcher my own meat when I have the opportunity.
Nothing beats food fresh from mother nature.
