Didn’t know her. Old lady dies.

My mum died without the care she had. Or the doctors. None of her sons paid off a traffic victim.

Not happy anyone dies….even strangers. But why the fuss?

I'm not a royalist but I do think hats off to be fair to the woman. I mean she actively reigned for nearly 71years... No, retiring from Asda for Liz to put up her feet was there? I cannot even fathom the mind numbing boredom of having to appear at crappy events, meeting and greeting folk. Having to smile and be always on top form when I'd probably just want to tell everyone to bugger off, and head home instead

You may find the op disrespectful some will not.

You cannot remove an opinion because in your mind you see as disrespectful. Did you find salaman Rushdie disrespectful?"

Why indeed. Think you missed the question mark at the end of my comment.

The Crown Estate made a net profit of £312 million last year, 75 % of which goes direct to the treasury. That would put the Queen comfortably in the top 10 taxpayers in the country

How does that benefit us though?

Sadly although I do agree. There are so many folk in the UK, and the money pot is only so big The benefits system was only ever supposed to act as a short term stop gap for those unable to work temporarily, and a longer term support system for those who actually are unable to work to fund themselves. The system is very broken, and there are those who do sadly take advantage to the detriment of those in actual need

And how is that helping people now?

Blame Boris and his fucked up ideas.....We should and it is right that we pay homage to this incredible lady in the way the world expect us too

I mean, anyone bitching about her 'privileged life' needs a head check and actually educate themselves on her achievements and her working life....She was 96 and still working, who can say that they would expect their 96 year old relative to work.

Show some respect! Honestly, the bitterness towards an old lady is gobsmacking

It's not towards her... It's the whole monarchy, the pomp and ceremony. There's just no need for it! "

There is every need for it, this is what our country is amazing at....You forget how much revenue this will generate for our economy....

You are directing at the wrong people.....the billionaires such as Sunak's Mrs who up until recently paid no tax into our system.....Her and loads of others like her. We're in the shit and it has fuckall to do with the monarchy.

I cannot even fathom the mind numbing boredom of having to appear at crappy events, meeting and greeting folk. Having to smile and be always on top form when I'd probably just want to tell everyone to bugger off, and head home instead "

After a hard day's work it's understandable you'd want to tell people to bugger off. But smiling, waving and signing papers was her job. It wasn't after she'd spent 6 hrs on a till at Morrison's. I think the perks of her "job" justified such a heavy burden on her.

I understand why people that liked the Queen or respected her job are sad annoyed by this thread. But I do also think it’s unreasonable to think that nobody would have an opinion of her that contradicts that perspective? And then that that would also come up after her death? This stuff always happens. Plenty of people have died and been discussed online and not hailed as the best thing ever by everyone. Unfortunately for some of you, the Queen wasn’t everyone’s hero. Her and her job and her family have valid critics. And unfortunately for those that quite liked her, those voices are valid alternative perspectives on how we will remember her or how we should treat her death.

Anyway I just think that it’s important that these conversations do stay polite because It’s obviously an emotive topic for some of you.

Tbf, I hear that, but she’s also actively represented and advocated for a family that made this country rich by stealing more from other countries than the Queen could pay back in several lifetimes. On top of all the other things the country did in her name and before her, her family’s name to millions of people.

I totally get why people are sad. And I get that people think financially she’s great for us. But like it’s ok for people to dispute that.

I promise you that QE2 spent more time on her feet in the rain and cold standing for hours than most of us on our keyboards. One particularly awful Remembrance day, I thought how dreadful to stand there for any length of time even if it was to pay respects. It's only in the last few years they got her a covered golf cart with one of her ladies in waiting.

"I'm not a royalist but I do think hats off to be fair to the woman.

After a hard day's work it's understandable you'd want to tell people to bugger off. But smiling, waving and signing papers was her job. It wasn't after she'd spent 6 hrs on a till at Morrison's. I think the perks of her "job" justified such a heavy burden on her.

I promise you that QE2 spent more time on her feet in the rain and cold standing for hours than most of us on our keyboards. One particularly awful Remembrance day, I thought how dreadful to stand there for any length of time even if it was to pay respects. It's only in the last few years they got her a covered golf cart with one of her ladies in waiting."

That's not work! She (and the rest of them) wouldn't know what a days work is. They don't work any old shitty job(s) for a pittance living hand to mouth. They choose to do the "duties" they perform (charities etc). It's good PR. They have no worries other than their own self made crises. I would swap places places with any of them in a heartbeat. Because I, my family and all my friends WORK for a living. They do not. They play at working.

"Because she meant something to some people even if she didn’t to you!

Why though?

She served in the armed forces during the war

She has given millions away to charity

She has made millions for the country

What have you done ? "

Your wrong

1the quuen never served in the forces, my nan was a nurse in London and told me the queen turned up with her entrage walked around a ward quick photo a bit of filming and gone.

2 the royals haven't given a penny to charity directly they just put thier name to it as a patron.

3 tourists never get to see the royals they come to see the Palace s which would make more money if we opened them as hotels and compared to what they cost us in everything food, security, private jets, helicopters, boats, cars ect the deficit is - £billions

"By the way, OP, it is what it is. Charge it to the game. She’s more important than your mum And mine. And you. And me. Like no amount of deep thought will change that. Or sadness. The world is shit. It’s not changing. It’s sad that she’s dead as it’s sad when someone dies for their family. But complaining fab, unfortunately, is just going to upset people and not make anything better or different?

She's more important than the ops mum???

And people wonder why some people are losing faith with the monarchy.

No one is better or more important than anyone else.

Unfortunately, if you literally look anywhere online, on tv, probably outside from tomorrow or maybe tonight, people seem to love this woman and consider her more important than my mum, the OP’s mum or any of us or our family members before us. And tbf none of them will change that perspective based on discussions in this thread that’s the reality. So the OP, like many of us, should just let these guys mourn. "

I mean if there's something going on that I can't tolerate...I just hop on my bike, go swimming, do some sewing, switch off the TV, avoid the news and forums and social like the plague, toss my phone somewhere and drown myself in non-alcoholic wine and streaming documentaries of murderers.

Rants are all well and good but too many shorten your lifespan. Unless you plan to kick the bucket before retirement age. Live fast and die young they say. I'll be aiming for 80...96 is a bit too much for this mortal coil for me.

"I think this thread needs removing before it derails

It’s a hand grenade thread!

That’s a brutal form of censorship. I may not entirely agree with the OP but it’s their opinion and they have every right to express it.

It's hardly censorship. Words mean things.

They can say it anywhere they want to, even if minus here. DC is allowed to hope it gets removed. Ultimately the mods decide what stays and goes.

It’s an opinion nothing more. You don’t have a right that prohibits you being offended?

So you have an opinion, but when I say what I think, I'm being offended?

I was responding. With my opinion.

Good god

I have lost you

No, I'm not lost.

DC is entitled to her opinion. You are entitled to yours.

My opinion is that you're using over hyped rhetoric to try to make opposition to your position seem worse than it is. It's common, it's pernicious, and in my opinion it's a sign of weakness.

It's hardly censorship. Words mean things.

They can say it anywhere they want to, even if minus here. DC is allowed to hope it gets removed. Ultimately the mods decide what stays and goes.

You lost me with this comment. It’s nonsense!

I'm sorry you lack reading comprehension.

My take? Old lady dies.

I take it you declined to take the extra bank holiday for the recent jubilee?

I worked by choice, as it happens.

Why should people decline to take bank holidays because they disagree with you?

Please comprehend. Not because they disagree with me, because they dont believe in the monarchy

I comprehend. You want to take people's legal rights away based on their beliefs.

People who don't approve of monarchy are equal under the law. Sorry about that.

(I took my bank holiday in lieu, thank you)

I dont thonk you do comprehend. A bank holiday is not a legal right or a law"

And employers can discriminate on the basis of philosophical belief, in the UK? Lol

This is just a rehash of the jubilee arguments, that only monarchists should get a day off and only monarchists (see your allusion above) care about charity. If you want to believe that, you do you.

I came into this thread defending the idea of stopping to mourn the Queen, but ok

"I'm not a royalist but I do think hats off to be fair to the woman.

It's only in the last few years they got her a covered golf cart with one of her ladies in waiting.

Wow you really think she didn't work... work till your 96 and then have the right to critise.... she served her country till the very end..

Not much considering how much money she's brought into this country through tourism in 70 years

The Monarch is not legally liable to pay income tax, capital gains tax or inheritance tax because the relevant enactments do not apply to the Crown. The same is true for the income from the Duchy of Cornwall which is paid to The Prince of Wales..... A quick Google search

Can I just say that what counts as labour is not defined by what is given in return, nor is it defined by how early we wake up or how physically or mentally tired we are. Labour is labour. The idea that some labour is harder or more valued than others, ironically, simply just continues the idea that some lake are more valuable than others.

A bank holiday is not a legal right or a law

No, you said incorrectly bank holidays were a legal right. They are not. So if you want to debate get your facts right."

I said take their rights away under the law.

Being treated equally based on belief is a right.

I also posted before that, you might note. My first post was that the Queen mattered to a lot of people. But you do you

Lifelong social conditioning- bit like the Americans do with the allegiance to the flag- to make it easier to enlist their military requirements.

The real piss take is that the royals substantial press and marketing team and all the other guff to make this happen, is paid for by the very people they wish to indoctrinate...thus perpetuating the compliant masses who believe this family are somehow special and keep them i the luxury they demand

Because your mum was not head of state for over 70 years. Rude as it may seem, thems the breaks.

This argument is rolled out every time someone in the public eye gets attention for dying or getting married or having a baby or falling out with their family. It just make people look bitter.

Well said.

I think people seem to be forgetting the Queen was our head of state.

In every country around the world if and when their head of state dies they have a period of national mourning And almost always there is a state funeral. We are not unique in this.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I respect her as a human being but she had a good life and lived to a good age. She was good at being Queen but this is not something I would get emotional about.

I am aware this is a historic moment though and will watch the coming events passively. Luke
