Guilty Pleasures With High Standards

Morning all! Something I was thinking about yesterday but can you have high standards of something but still enjoy things that may fall below it.

For example, I really love coffee and I'm always trying to get better tasting coffee all the time, but I still love a Starbucks Frappuccino once in a while.

Can you be a foodie and enjoy a McDonalds? A film buff and still enjoy a stoner comedy? Is there anything that could apply to you?

If I enjoy something I enjoy it.

I love really good perfume but I also like L'aimant by Coty at £4:99 a bottle.

I will not compromise on chocolate or coffee though

It depends if the thing you have high standards about is a deal breaker.

If we like it, we like it regardless of any (perceived) barrier to entry.

The only thing we wont compromise on is safety or hygiene. So food establishments scores are more important to us than if its a greasy spoon or a fancy restaurant.

You can 100 percent be a foodie and still like McDonald's.

Perfume and scent is a good one! I personally wouldn't be able to tell the difference but imagine you can definitely get some nice smelling cheaper ones. I agree on chocolate too

I guess the difference would be there in material and durability but bet there are some really nice looking cheaper handbags too!

I guess I meant it's more in terms of perception of what is a higher standard more than things like hygiene and safety which should be a given

Oh I agree with Sports Direct for the gym, it's cheap and cheerful clothes that you only need to sweat in. I don't wear branded clothes as they have the propensity for plastering it all over their tops

That's a good way to look at it and something I aspire to. So I don't feel like I betray myself when I go Starbucks

You can definitely get some good tasting cheap chocolate that don't taste all waxy that others do. Cheap doesn't always mean worse a standard

We used to go to Starbucks coffee club. They're actually quite serious about the stuff.

Doughnuts are another one for me! I love the really indulgent ones you can get from a place called Project D, but still love the pack of 5 jam doughnuts from Sainsbury's

It depends really, I've tried using their beans for filter coffee and it was great, although their blonde roast is ok. They're much better as creating drinks with coffee rather than coffee itself.

At coffee club they brewed different blends, told us a bit about it's origin, what food it well paired with etc. It was very informative. I nearly coughed to death doing the tasting at the slurping bit, completely destroying any semblance of dignity I had.

That's really cool! I wish they'd promote more of that side of things though such as putting the origin on the bag and putting different blends on sale. There's joke to be made about you slurping and choking but I'll resist

A Frappuccino is far from low budget! It's less about expensive Vs cheap and more about having standards of something that you would drop for a certain reason
