We always see this in profiles or messages.

What is a professional guy/woman/couple?

Are they better than everyone else at their job or some kind of spy?

This is doing my head in.

Who's getting nasty and why shouldn't people judge? The whole point of having a profile is so somebody can judge whether you are likely to be someone they want to meet. Every single person that meets someone from here has made a judgement.

No different to people putting 'genuine' on their profiles. Which equally means fuck all to anyone except the person using the word.

Professional really means nowt with regards to swinging, doesn't it? If I want architect's drawings, I'll go to a professional. When it's down to sex, a connection and a good time, someone's job doesn't matter one iota.

As if "oh we're so professional and elite, we won't run our mouths off like those non-professionals". It's meaningless.

At least that's how I tend to read it. I'm not saying that that's how they definitely are, but it's the first impression given.

I have professional on my profile and proud of it. It just means I work in a recognised profession. A type of job for which specific training skills required, which I've had to study for.

I'm no better or worse than anybody else, just different as we all are.

If people don't like it, tough. I ain't changing for anybody.

Happy fabbing.

OK. I've had a coffee now so here's my expanded view.

Some people think putting 'professional' on their profile affords them a kind of self awarded status that in some manner puts them above others, whether its based on career, earnings, net worth, assets or whatever. To some it's important. To others it's not in rhe slightest.

Similar questions are often asked when people put 'genuine' or 'genuine swinger' on a profile. What the fuck do they mean?? Surely everyone alive is a genuine, real person, given that as advanced as sex dolls are these days they don't tend to come with AI and the ability to set up a profile on a swingers website. And nobody has ever earned the right to determine what a 'genuine swinger' is - it's down to the individual to define that.

So in summary?

People choose words they think will 'sell' themselves best to others and if that means appearing to place themselves higher on an imaginary food chain than others then that's what they'll do. Does it work? I personally doubt it makes any difference at all but it's their profile after all.

And let's face it. Many don't read any of the words anyway and just make decisions based on the pretty pictures and whether it says 'anal' in the interests.........

Whenever I see ‘professional’ in the real world I assume it means ‘has a particularly skilled job that required a specific amount and type of training/education over an extended period of time’

On here, I think it probably means ‘won’t show face pics as if work found out I’d have to have some uncomfortable conversations’ or ‘I can use work as a convenient excuse to bail/disappear’

It's just a a word why we can't do a Dionne and just walk on by is beyond me, why we need affirmation that others feel the same about it I have no clue, other than to stir the pot and make people feel like shit, as as happened above.

It doesn't annoy me.

It often seems to annoy those that feel insecure about it.

I often see the word misquoted, misused and used in a derogatory way to put down those that use it.

Seems you can say you are a complete TWAT , love football, want to try sexual perversions of all kinds, are overly religious, eat too much, lazy, love cos play, are a builder or a nurse , only want to fuck married people behind their partners back be an out and out or what ever the fuck you like but anyone saying they are a professional sets the non professionals on edge......

It only indicates that in your head.

Is it? I don't think somebody not liking something on a profile or thinking it makes someone come across as arrogant somehow indicates they feel inadequate.

Also just because somebody puts they are a professional on their profile doesn't mean they actually are and it is a very overused word and often not used in the right context.

Citation in a profile of the term professional, without further verifiable evidence, is really a futile attempt by the user to convey elevated status, to distinguish them from the 'great unwashed'.

What really counts here is personal attractiveness and experience; it is of no consequence what a person's 'professional' status is: the crux on a swingers site is-do they look good, do they behave appropriately/respectfully and are they as expert as they purport to be?

Yes Lorna. People have quite clearly said that anyone who puts the word professional on their profile is this , that and the other.

I do see the problem.

This thread has been put up to bash people who describe themselves as professional.

They've been called twats and arrogant , up themselves, 'they think they are better than anyone else' ..... etc

Why are that section of society okay to abuse openly ??

It's just a highly unpleasant witch hunt of a thread.

To me it means they are likely to have a 9-5 job and can't meet up during the day. We used to have it on our profile along with having a young family, as an indicator that we don't have much spare time and that we can't do spontaneous meetings.

I think the way it reads is as a differentiation between white collar and blue collar workers.

Which is helpful to those who only fancy one 'type' or another.

But can come across as arrogant to those who are sensitive about classism or social climbing etc

Saying someone is 'getting worked up' is a very basic way of deflecting and stalling and avoiding giving a simple straight answer to a simple question.

Persisting in that line of pushback is immature imho.

Having opposing opinions doesn't automatically change a discussion to an argument, even if they're strongly held.

But trying to shout down an opposing view because they won't just slink away shows a person up.

"To me it means they are likely to have a 9-5 job and can't meet up during the day. We used to have it on our profile along with having a young family, as an indicator that we don't have much spare time and that we can't do spontaneous meetings.

If one word in a profile does your head in, that is more on you than the actual profile in my opinion.

That's exactly the context in which it's written on my profile. If that one word puts people off, so be it.

See it's strange saying I've job a time intensive job means I'm up my own arse. But having time intensive kids is fine. The two things have the same result on a prospective meet, so why do people get so offended by it?

Because anyone can have kids but not everyone can be a professional.

There are plenty of couples to struggle or can't have children though. The heartbreak it causes is massive. Yet we don't have posts saying look at those parents, they're showing off they can reproduce. Which to me would be a bigger upset than someone's job title.

For several reasons I'd use the word professional on my profile long before I'd tell the internet I had young children at home. "

This is a really good point, and one I've taken on board thank you

I always imagine turning up to a meet with 'professional ' people to find them with a clipboard in hand, asking me to sign a Service Level Agreement before we start and giving me a set of Key Performance Indicators to achieve before my post meeting appraisal.

It’s actually the “professional couple” that makes me laugh. Do they get paid to be a couple? How do we sign up to this?

Another bitching forum post by inverted snobs who think they're better than everyone else because they don't describe themselves as professional.

Perhaps you could tell me whether if you needed a doctor, a lawyer, a dentist, a brain surgeon, an accountant, a pilot or a teacher for your kids you would be happy going to the girl or guy at the local MacDonald's counter or a 'professional' who has spent years at University training. It's not saying that one is better than the other, just that you're more likely to have had more in common and common experiences. And what is wrong with that? Is it any different to stating a preference for an age range?

Going by this definition it seems we're likely all professionals :

professional

Learn to pronounce

adjective

1.

relating to or belonging to a profession.

"young professional people"

Similar:

white-collar

executive

non-manual

Opposite:

manual

2.

engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as a pastime.

"a professional boxer"

Similar:

paid

salaried

non-amateur

full-time

Opposite:

amateur

noun

1.

a person engaged or qualified in a profession.

"professionals such as lawyers and surveyors"

Similar:

white-collar worker

professional worker

office worker

2.

a person engaged in a specified activity, especially a sport, as a main paid occupation rather than as a pastime.

"his first season as a professional"

Back to my tea

"

I'm more interested in who a person is as a whole than solely how they pay their bills. If they are a mature functioning adult that I find attractive and interesting both in and out of bed, if they have differing experiences to bring to the table it's even better.

But that's just my own perspective.

"We always see this in profiles or messages.

What is a professional guy/woman/couple?

Are they better than everyone else at their job or some kind of spy?

This is doing my head in.

Tell me about it ... At my job.. I have to ask for their occupation... And some people would just say ... "Ummmm put down professional"

I say they are lizard people covering up their stories "

Friend of mine has just listed himself as an 'Expert' on Linkedin, to counter some of the ridiculous position statuses on there

So you ignore every word on a profile? Because them as a person is more important than words to you.

Mature and functioning.... high standards. Do you feel ashamed about using words that exclude many people?

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I don’t mind if people state professional on their profile, but I personally don’t see the relevance. However, that doesn’t matter as it’s their profile, not mine.

Anyone can be busy in their working life, privacy and discretion are important to most people and those in non professional professions might be equally as interesting, intellectually stimulating and eloquent as anyone else. Some of them might be equally or often more wealthy. (I know of lots of graduates who don’t work in their chosen academic field and a few who have gone on to learn a trade after getting their degree).

And there’s some other common phrases that irritate me a little, but not enough to get worked up.

“We don’t bite, unless you ask us.” Nothing wrong with the phrase, but it’s well overdone now.

“Publicly traded blah blah” (especially when they put the numbers in there or mention Facebook). This is almost red flag status for me. It might not stop me being interested, but it’s definitely a discriminator.

“If you don’t like [insert whatever here] move on” A worthy sentiment but a bit redundant as that is the case for anyone’s profile and any trait you can think of.

And of course the good old “I can fuck, lick, splurge, squirt, make you do anything, best ever at” type statements that always make me think pride comes before a fall.

But in the end, some people will think these are important things to include in their bio and some won’t agree.

Happy fabbing all, and after reading some of the arguments above, I think I might look up some girl wrestling porn later. It’s got me right in the mood for it!

Exactly - there are many professions where a public outing of this lifestyle would be frowned upon or regarded as oppositional to their professional register & standards.

Many people would argue that we should all be able to be open & our employment shouldn't matter. In the real world it does though. Swinging seems to be last bastion of freedom that is still considered to be furtive and unacceptable by the mainstream.

Many people are as guarded about their jobs as they are about their families knowing.

Their profile - their choices.

So many other profiles to read if you don't like ant particular ones
