Sharks spend time at busy beaches....

A chilling new study has revealed that the fearsome predators are attracted to locations where there are lots of people, just like in the classic movie 'Jaws'.

The researchers made the worrying find after monitoring shark movements off the coast of Florida.

Dr. Neil Hammerschlag, head of a research team at the University of Miami, said: "We were surprised to find that the sharks we tracked spent so much time near the lights and sounds of the busy city - often close to the shore - no matter the time of day."

Dr. Hammerschlag explained that drone footage from Miami Beach showed that people were unaware that sharks were nearby but he insists that the public should not be alarmed by the study.

He explained: "Although this might make you a bit nervous, to me it just proves the point that sharks really don't want to bite people and that in fact sharks really tolerate people and tend to avoid them."

....I think I would keep an eye out for a fin or two if in the sea....

I'll let you all into a secret.

Sharks only bite you if you are in the sea.

surrounded by twinkly lights

They are attracted to the noise decibels that a struggling fish makes which is replicated occasionally our movements, music, machinery etc

Australia did a study about it a fair few years ago and its also why brody hit the elec cable to attract Jaws to him

They are fascinating animals

Morden

I think this falls into the category of "No shit Sherlock".

Predators (or non predators for that matter) aren't going to last long sticking to areas that don't have a food supply.

Exactly, but why let facts get in the way of a good scaremongering story
