I've read all of the books and I can't believe they thought Tom would be able to fit his shoes, therefore I think I will be giving it a miss, don't these directors read?????

I don't think I'd be able to watch the film with Cruise in it ....... I cannot see him as Jack Reacher ........ he'd spoil all thoughts of my ideal man.

it is a bit far fetched when he gets out a laser gun and parachutes in from a rocket powered hang glider... byte its worth a watch

Lee Child said on the Culture Show that Cruise works as Reacher...I don't think he'd be that much in the studios pocket to say that if he didn't mean it - soon as I'm up to the 50 mile round trip to the cinema and I can bribe someone to take me I will give it a go

Haven't seen it yet but I suspect I am going to feel the same as I did about the Bourne films.

Good films in themselves but utter rubbish compared to the books.

Ignore the haters, Ive just come back from the cinema and loved it.

I too was hacked off that Tom Cruise was taking the role when i first heard.

And i also thought Lee Childs had sold out.....that the story wouldn't be anything like his books.

But i was very pleasantly surprised.

Tom Cruise was quite restrained, his ego wasn't totally plastered all over the role.

I got the impression he actually liked the character and wanted to bring the Jack Reacher from the books to the big screen.

I think if you are a big Jack Reacher fan, and can go see the movie with a very open mind (or just expect it to be shit) you will be pleasantly surprised!!

ps he did look like he had bulked up (a tiny bit) for the role!

Although obviously not in stature! lol

Went to see it last night, as a huge Jack Reacher fan thinking it was going to be crap. It actually wasn’t bad, few funny bits and Lee Childs writing came through quite well. If you are a big fan it’s worth a watch and yes it looks like it’s just the start of Reacher on film. xx

Child aknowledged that people would think this in the interview mentioned above.

There are people who won't go just 'cos it's a movie and wouldn't go no matter who played Reacher and some who won't go 'cos Cruise doesn't match up to their vision of Reacher.

He made it clear he doesn't mind. I got the impression he doesn't care either. No bad thing.

I was watching the Expendables yesterday and thinking Steve Austin would make a great Reacher: him taking on the world I could believe - Tom Cruise? Nope!

Just re-reading 'The Affair',

The film is ok but it's a 12 rated so not really a good place to start and Tom Cruise just isn't the bad ass figure he's cast in.

Stick to the books...
