Has anyone actually claimed money for having a diesel car from 2009/2020? I had 2 diesels in that time and it looks like a scam but maybe someone has claimed… if so how long did it take and who did you claim with? Tia

Another example of our country's wonderful claim culture.

What exactly would you be claiming for? Interested to know what loss you incurred from owning your diesel cars?

Its to do with misrepresentation of emissions and I only think it counts if you bought one new or leased one from new...all bollox if you ask me

Most people who bought diesel cars were doing it because of the better mpg, not so much about the emissions. Can't see what grounds there are for any compensation.

Misrepresentation...

As well as serial fraud as they developed or rather hacked the testing software to provide better results than were achievable.

They provided this software to their dealers too.

There's an excellent write up of it in English in de bild.

Its pretty nasty all things considered... very German

Yes, I get that they cheated the government emissions testing but how did that affect the buyer?

They were misold a product. If I buy some zero and later find out it contained 200 calories I'd want my money back.

Admittedly unless you're a tree hugger there are more pressing stats you look at when buying a car but the consumers have still been lied to and should get some of their money back.

If even just to stop companies from thinking they can lie in future.

It will be interesting to see posts who have successfully claimed, the process and how much they were awarded

VW group has already agreed to settle 91,000 claims in England and Wales without admitting wrongdoing. Average payment to a claimant is £2100.

Not just VW at it. Also in the frame are Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Nissan, Renault, Ford, Volvo, Vauxhall, Peugeot.

I think VW Group settled in May this year but I don’t think any payments have been made yet. Other manufacturers are still going through the court process.

As for suffering financially, you would have suffered financially if you paid a premium for what you thought was a more environmentally friendly car, whether new or second hand. Plus you might not have brought the car in the first place if you’d known about the emission flaws.

People have essentially summarised above. But the other factor in this is the car couldn't do the milage it claimed... so the little blue motion badge that we assumed was cleaner and went further on less...

Was actually just a badge...

And we paid for that at the pumps. The other issue was when I came to sell this knocked value off my car... and that was selling it back to volkswagen or rather their dealer...

The thing is that even though I had two diesel cars in the specified period, I fundamentally not sure I like fuelling this claim culture we are increasingly embarking on here as in America. Something is just not sitting right with me but who knows, the attractive prospect of a handsome payout may overcome my moral objections

The claim culture has been here since the Woolf Reforms of the legal system in the late 1990’s; that gave us the “ambulance chasing” solicitors and the blame/claim culture was born.

People certainly paid for it at the pumps if they were daft enough to have the car "fixed" by the dealer. Autocar found cars after the fix were less economical than before.
