IKEA Bed Frame Recommendations?

Jump to: Newest in thread

Last year I got an Double Emma Hybrid Pocket Spring & Memory Foam Mattress as my old one was OLD and causing back pain so thought why the hell not.

It is comfortable but have found it to be quite warm and read that is because I have a Divan bed base which doesn't allow air to get under the mattress. So I'm looking at a new bed frame with slats to allow more air and hopefully more comfort.

I don't want to be spending too much money but also want something that works AND is also suitable for the sort of fun this community knows and loves so well

My initial thoughts have been the Songesand or the Hemnes though I like the Sonesand more as there isn't a raised bit at the end of the bed.

Then there is the questions of the slats, for "fun" of 2 or 3 people would the standard Luroy be suitable or the more pricey Lonset though part of me worries some bouncing may cause slats to escapre their mount.

Definitely interested to hear peoples thoughts, opinions or other recommendations

Measure carefully at IKEA bed frames are not the same as standard uk ones.

You will need to check all of your measurements very carefully.

If the bed is perceptibly too warm, reduce the tog and increase the room's ventilation, AND turn down or off the room's heating.

IKEA has lovely stuff but its sizes are nonstandard, but can be worked around with care and planning.

Finedon ,

I built my own King size bed frame, mainly because what was on offer in the bed shops seemed so flimsy. Cost me around £60 10yrs ago. Withstands a 350 kg threesome with ease. In the throes of converting it into a four poster.I have too much time on my hands

My IKEA bed frame is rubbish it's been squeaky since the day we bought it, wouldn't buy another one.

We have a bog standard cheap ikea frame but with the fancy slats. Deffo worth it. And "jumping" proof.

An alternative to buying a new frame or base is to pick an old one second hand and add additional battens, and internal brackets to strengthen it.

Crucially, spray all the joints and fabric with an anti-bedbug liquid, just in case.

Old bases tend to be stronger, especially if a good brand like Sealy or Silentnight is chosen.

The solid, partially-sprung Silentnight frame I am currently using was made in 1978, but everything else is much younger. I removed the wheels and it rests on a carpeted floor.

Thanks, that's def good to know, was concerned the articulation of the joint might not be suitable with "jumping"

The model is slattum, we picked this one as the headboard was grey to match our decor and there was room to put our storage boxes underneath.

Nice, i like the design of the songesand headboard and was thinking might be cool to rear mount led strips around the holes and edges of the headboard
