Cartonemia is when you drink too much milk...... "
One glass of milk contains the same amount of calcium as in 9 carrots..... |

Pork+apple= good combo but rarely eat pork roast
Turkey+cranberry= in a sandwich in winter months, a rare treat
The rest would be a fruit bridge too far for me |

Discussing carrots is often so much more satisfying than reading some other threads lately. Especially those that quite obviously intend to provoke and provide nothing more than self gratification. Back to carrots, what do you think about the little chantenay ones? |

Carrots are actually fictional. They were made up by Loony Toons for Bugs Bunny. The things you buy in supermarkets are just genetically modified parsnips.

I bought several sacks of them I the last few months from the local farm. They put them at the bottom of the road next to a money box and were only £1.50 for a whole sack. I made several carrot cakes, soups and even a carrot jam that someone recommended thinking it will be weird but it's absolutely gorgeous |

"love them, good for eye sight too,, see what your seeing on fab,,"
They contain retinol but in such small amounts that you'd have to eat nothing but carrots, in huge quantities, for there to be any effect! |

"There are at least 40 varieties of carrots
Name them
Would it be classed as "spamming the thread" ?"
maybe. We can start another thread called 'name a carrot' althoughno doubt someone will come back with something like Harold or similar. Please don't tell me there is a variety of carrot called Harold |

Good question. I used to think I was posh when they first came out. I've sometimes thought they are like stubby willies. In the end, they are too much hassle to bother with but they do look pretty on a plate. |

A bit of the same here tbh. And they never seem to be as fresh or last as long as the other carrots. |

"Surprisingly hard to grow well ! They prefer soil that's not too rich so the roots go deep in search of nutrients."
Do they? I have some seedlings I was going to stick in a deep pot. |

I've never grown in a pot but too rich soil leads to the stumpy ones with multiple roots as all the nutrients are close to surface. An average multi compost probably isn't that rich after a few weeks. |
