"Its pretty cheesy, loads of references to the original movie and has amazing aerial shots...loved it, watched it a couple of times and no doubt will watch it again "
^ this is the best response so far I’d say.
One of those leave your brain at the door popcorn films, expect lots of testosterone, flag waving (USA) and action. And a lot of cheese.
You can literally predict the end but hey, it’s a fun movie. |

I thought it was largely excellent, the references back to the original were pretty clever but I still kinda wanted more.
The biggest goosebump moment for me was the opening credits. Others of note were Maverick showing the others how to do it and the final battle scene. |

The old plane vs not one but, two new state of the art planes was a bit far fetched. The whole film was believable right up until that. Good film but, it should have finished when maverick took one for the team. Then again it’s Hollywood & the same happened in “Battleship” but, that was a SI-FI. |

"Anyone watched this yet? Is it worth downloading?"
The original is far superior. The end of Maverick is totally ridiculous and unrealistic.
I've bought it to go with the original and because I'm an aviation lover but it won't be something I watch often.

"Cheesy, clichéd, macho, US propaganda bullshit. Hated it. Mind you I didn't choose to watch it.
Prey is definitely worth a watch though
"

Agree with this, enjoyed the original film much more when patriotic tub thumping was acceptable cinematic fodder!
This was all that but on acid. It had no soul, no depth or originality...even down to the cliched, nameless, black masked foe flying the "5th Gen" fighter plane that outclassed anything the US had to offer, but the American spirit prevailed...oh c'mon!

Leave your brain at the door, don’t think too much about it, and you’re guaranteed to love it. It gets picked apart forensically by some which could prejudice your own enjoyment.
I’d say just watching it with the expectation of watching a loud, brash, blockbuster. With some incredible aerial cinematography. |

Spoilers….my review on another site.
The film is exactly what it’s advertising is selling. American patriotism with a gung-ho storyline.
Plenty of Cinema goers will enjoy two hours of plane porn and cute looking people being bad ass. Others such as myself will just see it as a waste of an opportunity to add a bit of heft to a flawed character.
It’s a shame as this film with a more visionary Director and the money men being kicked out of the room, could’ve been something truly different. But we have to think about the franchise these days and the possibility of another film.
This had a chance to improve on the first film, maybe make it a bit more realistic, but it just fed us the same creaky story, a Star Wars plot as the ending.
I thought it did what it intended and created a film to be fair to it, what the audience wanted.
However for me, if you’re bringing a character back after 40 years try to find a new story to tell and maybe the best way for him to finally be put to bed. |

It doesn't need picking apart forensically (Col American Mustard did it with a sledgehammer!) and it didn't need Oliver Stone to direct it either..but it was basically a corny rehash of the original, so much more could have been achieved with the story, talent and available budget, in my opinion of course! |

It was not as bad as I was expecting to be honest. I was expecting a real cheese-fest like the original film, with overtly obvious propaganda.
As it was, the cheese was dialled down as was the propaganda (it was still there to a lesser degree, but in a much lesser amount).
Tom Cruise was, well just Tom Cruise.
His character was written quite unusually I thought. Lots of sullen, moody, hanging at the back, watching and observing most of the time.
Considering he was the mentor, I was expecting him to come in all Gunnery Sgt Hartman (Full Metal Jacket) from the get go and lay down the law and establish his authority with his team.
Then again, that would have been a different movie !
