What a lovely way to open up the forums today..........madchick home from Afghanistan (welcome home) and Sexycouple have a new grandaughter (congratulations).

new 80 bed nursing home opens very soon and are crying out for staff so i sent off my application so seriously my fingers are crossed this is my break into the world of work  |

best of luck Sassy, got everything crossed for you. Is it nursing or residential - you could get your nvq in geriatric care out of it - go for it |

Its Nursing with and EMI unit. Ive already done courses in Mental Health/Dementia and Palliative Care.. sadly that was over 4 years ago now so more than likely means diddly squat
Already got NVQ training under my belt so that should score me some plus points and ive done care work for approx 4 years.. i just took 3 years out to be a mum so that will go against me.. |

sounds like you tick all the boxes Sassy, and you could be more qualified than a lot of applicants. Have you cared for a relative or neighbour while you took a career break? If so, make sure you mention it all at interview - sell yourself. Mental health act has changed a bit recently, so you might want to refresh on that - no major changes to be honest though |

I do take my grandma out a lot for various shopping trips.. she'd slap me but guess that increases her well being lol  |

Keeping fingers cross and wishing you best of luck. Taking three years out may not be held against you - it shows that you take parental caring responsibilities seriously. When I actively recruited that sort of career break would count as a plus in my books! |

Go to the moneysavingexpert website (Martin Lewis one) and print off the letters and claim it yourself. My friend used one of those companies and they took a fair chunk of her repayment.  |
