"Whatever one you were 20 in " I was 20 in 1981 but I'm going for the 70's
| |||
"The forties. The 1740s" I remember them well

"The forties. The 1740s I remember them well " I was just leaving primary school...

"90’s, got Pearl jam, Alice in chains , soundgarden , pantera , nirvana, stone temple pilots , faith no more , slipknot , Dillinger escape plan , machinehead , Kyuss, Foo fighters ....amazing stuff " Finally, someone who talks sense...
"The forties. The 1740s" • You're 'looking' good for a bicentennial Mød rocker.
"The forties. The 1740s I remember them well I was just leaving primary school..." I would have been helping Mr Handel write his Messiah
"The forties. The 1740s • You're 'looking' good for a bicentennial Mød rocker." Portrait in the attic dear boy, portrait in the attic.
"The forties. The 1740s I remember them well I was just leaving primary school... I would have been helping Mr Handel write his Messiah " Alleluia ! You got it
| |||
"Any decade during the 1600s. Those jesters, harlequins, minstrels and the under-appreciated wilburys never knew how much they inspired future generations." Yep, Gibbons, Buxtehude, Pachelbel… especially the last one! Bet the majority of married people on this thread had his Canon played at their Wedding! Bet he didn’t go to bed having written it and thought to himself, “Yep, rocking tune I‘ve made up there! In a few centuries it‘ll be played at every bloody Wedding in Europe!“ ??????

"The forties. The 1740s I remember them well I was just leaving primary school... I would have been helping Mr Handel write his Messiah Alleluia ! You got it " Well, I wasn‘t thinking so much of Handel, although what he did to democratise music and bring it to the masses is, for its time, probably on a par with Beatlemania in the 60s and arguably surpasses it for its continuing historic legacy. Handel died in 1759 so I‘d have quoted the 1750s for his best work. No, the prize for the 1740s has to go to THE master musician of them all, J S Bach who died in 1750 and was therefore at the height of his powers in the 1740s. His legacy to music down the ages is just far too enormous to adequately express, and reaches far beyond just the erudite and hallowed confines of Western art music.

"your teenage and early 20’s years is likely to define your answer" Can’t say it does for me. That would be the 90’s and for me that’s a definite no. In the 70’s you have the ska, disco and funk as well as soul and R&B. Come on, if they hadn’t happened where would we all be?
"You could just rename this thread "what decade were you a teenager?""

" • ^ I think he's got a Handel on it. I now just need a Chopin Liszt for my online musical purchases.
"This decade. Because we have all the music from previous ones " Thinking outside the box. I like it

"your teenage and early 20’s years is likely to define your answer" For a lot of people that is likely to be true…. But some of us still find a thrill out of listening to and going to see new music by musicians more than half our age….. So every decade is good….

"Fuck knows. I'm currently watching the remnants of a 1970s band, playing a song from 1956, in the 2010s. I'm bamboozled " Just go with it

"Fuck knows. I'm currently watching the remnants of a 1970s band, playing a song from 1956, in the 2010s. I'm bamboozled " In fact, you’re soooo bamboozled you’re actually living in a different decade from the rest of us: we’re in the 2020s now baby!

"As far as rock music goes, definately the 70's." Totally agree Sabbath, Zepplin, Deep Purple list could go on
| |||

"The 1860s had some great pieces written. " Yer on! Time to name and shame them catchy toons then!
| |||
"Serious, what is good about 80s music, 60s, 70s, I get, but 80s…….. " Yep, know exactly what you mean bro! What we really need is a hands over the ears emoji!

X Goes off to re spray my bouffant hair do ...... 80s doesn’t do rock………" Queen were around in the 80s (to a lesser extent) Metallica took off (metal, would you class rock completely separately?!) But apart from the current period, 80s are my least favourite, especially totally electronic stuff from that era. I'm a 50/60/70s aficionado (but born in 1985 )

" Yeah, he had a bit of talent, but compare 80s to all the other decades…… absolute tosh

"The music that is around today is just as good and exciting as any music from any previous decade….. " It’s just easier to makeshift music

"The music that is around today is just as good and exciting as any music from any previous decade….. It’s just easier to makeshift music Shit " That’s quite subjective…. The years are littered with bands and artists that produced poor quality product

Talking high level, not too sure about the 2020s though, but only just started
