"So after decades of telling us we must stick to best before dates or we will catch some nasty bug... Turns out your nan was right all along.
Just use your nose and your common sense. "
Now this is where it falls apart in todays age , the bit about using common sense, you know dam well people have to be told when , how & where & have it written down in easy reading style |

Sell by and best before are entirely two different things
Sell by means it has to be removed from sale as the quality can no longer be guaranteed
Best before is a guide but it can be used after however the quality may not be as good
Expiry date is similar and usually attached to a product licence |

You do realise that all that is just to increase margins for supermarkets. To get them out of accusations about food waste so instead of giving food out for free or reduced price it will be sold at full price.
And then all PR stuff to convince customers that it's all for us. |

Another life skill that’s been lost the ability to tell if something is safe to eat.
With the cost of living crisis while I agree this is self serving of the supermarkets I hope it will also mean people learn to assess for themselves
Also perhaps they will learn to use up items past their best in soups etc |

It's a best before not a use by!
Just means it may not be as nice after that date.

"Only things I won't do that for is pork and chicken. No way in hell risking it. Everything else is fair game. "
Pork is so safe, you can cook it under...a bit |
