Surely I cannot be the only one....
Did anyone what when they were at school have to sit in assembly and belt out Jesus bangers from a blue hymn book titled "Come and Praise"?
I can't be the only one lol they wouldn't be able to do that now with all the multi diversity in schools |

We weren't posh enough to have books. We had a projector and the words written on acetate, beamed to the front wall of the hall.
Who put the colours in the rainbow? I was a stubborn child and refused to sing "God" so sang "mother nature" instead |

Autumn days when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell.
Jetplanes meeting in the air to be refuelled.
All these thing I love so well
So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget.
To say a great big
Thank You
I mustn't forget

Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the dance, said he
Just makes me think Jesus was like Michael Flatley. |

"We did sing hymns but did anyone sing the “cauliflowers fluffy, cabbages green” song?
Broad beans sleeping in their blankety bed"
YES!!!! Loved that one, haha! Good one to belt out cross legged in assembly! |

Two stick in my mind:
"Will Your Anchor Hold", The Boy's Brigade anthem - my mother made me attend religiously every week during the late 60's and early 70's...
"Once in Royal David's City", which I performed solo at my grammar school's Christmas Carol concert - at 15 I could still sing soprano... |

"We plough the fields and scatter…
Always brings back the memories of the harvest festival assembly we had when I was at the local infants school…
"
For harvest festival we always had the stage decorated and the centrepiece was a very fancy bread that had been baked years earlier and varnished. I'd love to know if they still use it. It'd be about 40 years old by now |

There’s whole sm threads/pages dedicated to this little book quite the nostalgia hit.
I’ve sung in choirs all my life and love singing hymns purely for the musical pleasure of them. So many favourites. Will often sing a verse or chorus just randomly at home.
Very happy memories of singing at school and at church as a wee one |
