I don't know the alternative name or gender neutral term. Suggestions welcome.

Are you grubby?

Ashamed of your kitchen floors?

Do you have a cupboard of shame?

Tell me so I can feel better about my own slatternish ways

The kitchen is an embarrassing mess right now. I do need to crack on with it really. I did make all the beds this morning and the bathroom was scrubbed clean not that long ago. But yeah, visitors mean intensive cleaning and tidying sessions

It can be used in a sexual way. I'm using the "slovenly" definition for the thread which I hope the context makes clear.

Yes, and I don't give a shit.

I've done my years of gruelling housework to keep my house shiny and new.

I don't give a hoot if my floors are dusty or my cobwebs are curtains.

I'll do it when I'm ready (or when my cleaner can fit me in).

My kitchen is a bit of a tip at the moment. Had a leaking water pipe and the plumber emptied my cupboard under my sink to get to the leak. He made a temporary repair and is coming back this week to finish the job off. He also had to move other stuff, too.

I'll be at work so will have to sort it all out one night once the job has been done.

My stairwell is about 100 feet high (slight exaggeration but I need a very long ladder to reach the top). My tall daughter cleaned it for me by attaching a broom to my vacuum cleaner pole. I used to carry my light vacuum cleaner up a ladder to reach it but I'd kill myself doing that now.

Earlier this year I was taken very unwell. My friends had to take over my life for a little while. When I thought that I may not make it all I could think about was the amount of crap I have in my house wedged out of site in cupboards and drawers

I vowed to tidy up.

Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe

Apart from my kitchen I mentioned earlier, my place is reasonably tidy, but there are one or ten cobwebs appearing in places such as behind the telly, on the coal bucket and log basket and on my bookcase legs.

I did set today aside to dust and vacuum. Instead, I've lounged on the sofa and on here, been to the supermarket, put laundry in the washing machine, had an afternoon nap and lounged on the sofa again.

However, it's not so bad that I'd be ashamed if someone turned up unanounced.

"Yes. I can't have unannounced guests "

I don’t like guests full stop. I’m very much a hermit. I have mobility problems so cleaning is extremely hard, I have a lovely lady who comes into clean once a week.

This week we did some gutting of my back bedroom within 30 mins I was sweating profusely, my legs were giving way, I felt dizzy. I blame Covid for much of it as I haven’t been walking as much as I would have done when we were told to stay in and not go out.

However, I do have friends who don’t care what state my house is in so long as there’s somewhere to sit down. As for meets, I always make sure my bedroom is ok and don’t let them anywhere else, except maybe the bathroom.

I don’t know if there’s a better word, and didn’t even know Slattish was a word lol

I hope you're a great deal better now? Owning too much stuff makes it much harder to clean, for sure. It can be a challenging process to declutter. It's taken me a few years to get really harsh about stuff.

I think friends will come to see you not your house.

I recall having a two year old and a new baby. The house was *really* untidy, unwashed dishes in the kitchen, beds unmade etc. Around 10am a friend called unannounced. She had to step over toys on the living room floor . She brought home made cakes in a tin, we had a cup of coffee and a nice chat. She understood that friendship is more important than a tidy house. This was thirty years ago and I think I'll always remember it.

shits creek

Spare room is a laundry dump.

Kitchen generally has stuff in the washing up bowl and a butter knife and crumbs next to the toaster.

Rest of the house is sound tho, that's probably because I don't use my living room very often. I shit you not there have been times I've not been in it for weeks other than to run the vac over.

My bedroom isn't too bad. Clean it weekly the day before bin day and remove the empty pop bottles to the recycling coz I'm a fucker for leaving one on my bed before I go to work, finishing it when I get home from work (bed time) and putting it on the floor on the opposite side of the bed so I don't stand on it if I get up in the night.
