I have a very good male friend that I met through a fab social group a few years ago and we clicked immediately because we have so much in common.

Because of that and how others thought we were related, we call each other Bro and I'm good with that but it wouldn't work with anyone else.

Personally, babe works with some couples only. On others it doesn't sound natural. And I think if it is overused it definitely becomes jarring.
