It is better if you can increase your uptake through food. The tablets often cause constipation. It tastes awful but I think Floradix is better than the tablets.
If they think you need the injection say no - it hurts!
My sister increased my count from 7.3 to 9.8 just with brocolli soup and apricots and saved me from the injection. |

Do you have an underactive thyroid. Tiredness is a symptom of the complaint |

I've not felt any difference before or during the course of iron, save for the poo issue you mention.
Someone asked about thyroid deficiency. I have that too and have taken thyroxine for many years. |

for those of you on Thyroxine and Iron do you take the tablets at the same time?
I was advised that if i took them at the same time that the Iron would take over the Thyroxine and the absorption wouldn't happen. |

Ask your doc about ferrograd c which are much easier on your digestive system as you absorb more efficiently so they don't have as much iron which is discarded by your body and makes for the black poo.
Floradix is very good too but does have a lingering overtone of broccoli. |

"Artful's tip of the day.
If you want to get extra iron in your system, drink pure orange juice (not from concentrate) with your meals."
That's the principle of ferrograd c. It has quick release vitamin c and slow release iron. You actually need to get the vitamin c into your system around half an hour before the iron to help your body absorb it better. |

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack! |
I had quite a nasty experience when prescribed iron tablets for anemia. I suffered breathing problems that were put down to the iron irritating my stomach and fighting the correct function of my diaphragm. Ended up in A&E under observation overnight and my cardiac nurse recommended I halve the dose. My anemia was being caused by a hiatus hernia and an ulcer in my ossofagus. |

You should take them at least two hours apart. |

Who knows |
"yes im currently on thyroxine, and have something wrong with my liver (currently being investigated) but im fed up of being tired all the time, "
If you have been diagnosed with a thyroid complaint you should have had the FULL range of blood tests every 3 months for the first year of prescribing, that will also pick up on any other complaints especially if they do the blood viscosity test |

Haha I knew the question was going to lead onto this! Yep, they do have that effect. I take them every once in a while.

Milk thistle is a real tonic for the liver and Berberis Vulgaris too.
Vitabiotics has a multisuppliment for the liver called Liverel that is also very good.
Drinking plenty of water with a little apple cider vinegar can also flush things through well too.
Be very careful with your alcohol consumption too. |
